Native threading, native feel. NativeScript has kept JavaScript on the main UI thread for 10+ years - the same model native platforms demand. That’s why CADisplayLink springs in TypeScript can deliver the same interruptible, in-process behavior SwiftUI uses.
Yes, NativeScript runs its JavaScript on the main thread, so a spring stepped by CADisplayLink in TypeScript does what SwiftUI's animations do: each frame's value is computed in the app process and committed to the layer. Nothing goes through the render server. See this side-by-side showing the same interruptible interactions and also this gist for deeper explanation: gist.github.com/NathanWalker…

I just created a simple example with a few Android APIs, and woow! I've been prototyping my React Native app for a while, and it has been "okay". I will create a prototype with NativeScript and compare.

Let us know if any questions or need pointers. Agents are also very proficient (and token efficient) with NativeScript.

The spring I care about is the one you can interrupt. If it has to finish before the next touch lands, it feels like a video. Does this one take a grab halfway?

Yes, that’s the one. The slider can be grabbed mid-spring; both sides show “caught mid-flight.”

the same choice that makes it interruptible means one long synchronous call drops the frame

Same constraint as UIKit and SwiftUI. Heavy work goes to Workers; NativeScript has had isolated background JS threads for years.

Some have asked why not develop it in SwiftUI? I actually love Swift in general. The reason I used @NativeScript is because I plan to deploy this to Android foldables as well. Here it is on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.
Guitar Pocketbook, my first iPhone Duo app. - AVAudioEngine graph in TypeScript - Folding drives the mix (reverb and tone) - Hinge glows with audio frequency - WebGPU (metal) handles all visual fx Built with @NativeScript

@NativeScript does NS support QuickJS in place of V8?

It does, with 9.1, you can use new nativescript.config.ts options (runtimePackageName) like this: ``` android: { runtimePackageName: '@nativescript/android-quickjs-ng' }, ios: { runtimePackageName: '@nativescript/ios-quickjs' }, ``` We're planning to post a separate post about all things NAPI engine related like this (deserves focus on it's own - big topic) - be sure to `npm install` the `alpha` of those. It's mentioned in release post as subtle note blog.nativescript.org/native…

f**k that's pretty AF. What's NativeScript even? Nice, fast work for Duo, rock it out.

THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND PEOPLE
I built the same small macOS app in Obj-C + AppKit, Swift + AppKit, SwiftUI, React Native macOS, Tauri, and Electron. Observations: 1. Obj-C or Swift + AppKit are tiny in binary & mem, TTI 2. RN macOS has a good TTI, decent memory 3. Tauri's TTI was worst, but smaller bundle than RN 4. Electron is massive in nearly every way Not shown: how fast it reloads if you make a change. React Native, Tauri, and Electron win that one -- RN fastest. I enjoyed making the Objective-C one the most. Of course, basing your entire decision on just this chart would be incredibly dumb and tunnel-visioned. There's much more to tech decisions than just binary size, memory footprint, and TTI. For example -- do you need to support more than just macOS? But it was a fun exercise! (Not open source, because this is actually an internal macOS app we might use at Infinite Red for some ... stuff. Feel free to do your own tests, but do them right, like make sure to strip symbols and don't drag in unnecessary dependencies and whatnot!)

When using new 9.1 alongside Vite, new helpful tips have been added here: docs.nativescript.org/config… ✅ If providing to agents, use md or add the Docs MCP: ``` { "mcpServers": { "nativescript": { "url": "docs.nativescript.org/mcp" } } } ```

Going to be gorgeous 😍
can’t wait to try my NativeScript apps on this puppy. Apple’s api’s handle all kinds of new transitions and automated menu positioning that will either work day one, or will need some tweaking. We’ll see.
