While Big Z may disagree.. It’s because, in my logical opinion regarding the market for attention, the current rappers can’t keep up with and aren’t entertaining as.. streamers.
Hip-Hop is clearly missing from all the top chart positions lately and although this isn't a case of panic per se, it would be nice to see the genre back dominant in that sense again.

Second, and most notably, Billboard, at the behest of the record labels, has made numerous changes to their charting math, all of which have impacted hip-hop. Young people use ad-supported options like Audiomack (streams weighed less) and YouTube (data no longer counted).

We’re in a very conservative era because of Trump…that’s also a reason why rap has fallen off

The music is now stale.. same flows and cadence, same beats, same everything. No variety

is hip hop not allowed to lull for a bit?

It is a cause for panic because this has been the case for the past few years and there isn’t even bright new hope in the wings

And this is why the investment suffers and without proper investment and resources, you can’t reach the potential. We need a balance of both. Not just “bars and dope beats”

oh yeah, GKMC definitely one of the few instant classics for me 🫡
That wasn’t an instant classic when it dropped

We started planning this event last spring. It was going to be @zanelowe in conversation with @CliveDavis. Scheduling got in the way and we ended up with a tribute panel discussing the legacy that Mr. Davis left behind. 🙌🏼

It’s radio, mix with rappers aren’t selling and collaborating like that anymore and we lost the art of remixes

The thing about this OutKast lawsuit that I feel like people are skipping over: Name confusion and a name change was AGREED UPON BY BOTH PARTIES BY A CERTAIN DATE. That date came, the name change didn’t happen.

A lot of bad quality music with big funding + forced marketing penetrated the economy. Eventually human ears lost trust and stopped being fans of those artists and instead ran to other genres. + many international artists/sounds made in roads and decreased the overall pie for hip hop

I tell artists they have to advocate for radio budget instead of digital budget. A label will give an artist $250K in digital and ZERO radio. I’d rather take the money in radio.

@Navjosh rule changes + for the last decade only in hip-hop/rap genre has the streaming been overly prioritized over all the other elements that helps records chart into those positions. - physicals - radio - YouTube not counting towards billboard Let’s not pretend why now

Guru had us hot! 😂😂😂. The funny part(which they missed telling the story) is, after Guru played the joint he came by the Fader Fort where we all were. We laughing and joking etc.. meanwhile the song is out and traveling crazy while we there hanging but nobody knew cause the service was horrible in that area. We all hug and dap up and leave and hit the freeway… then all the messages started coming through. 😂 fun times.
