#ONGC strikes gas in the deep waters of Mahanadi Basin. MDW-28, the maiden well of ONGC’s current deepwater campaign in the Mahanadi Basin is flowing gas with encouraging rates and sustained reservoir pressure. The campaign was launched on 25 July 2026 by Hon'ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas Shri @HardeepSPuri, with the spudding of MDW-28 (MN-DW18-1-H-D) in the deep offshore Mahanadi Basin, aligned with the Government's Samudra Manthan initiative. The well was perforated on 18 September 2026 following evaluation of subsurface data. It is currently flowing with a good gas rate and healthy reservoir pressure. During operations, ONGC @ChairmanONGC @singharunongc, Director (Technology & Field Services) @vikramsONGC, and Director (Exploration) @opsinhaONGC visited the drillship to interact with and encourage the crew onboard. This find, along with other discoveries in the area, can be a candidate for development through shared facilities enabled by the PNG Rules, 2025, bringing deepwater resources onstream. ONGC will continue to push into deep and ultra-deepwater frontiers in the search for hydrocarbons, and towards India's goal of energy security. Discussed “India 3.0 Engaging for Growth in a Disrupted World” with my former colleague Amb @navdeepsuri Ji, my friend and PAFI Co-Founder Sh Ajay Khanna Ji, and other distinguished professionals at the 13th Annual Forum 2026 organised by @PAFIIndia. Our conversation naturally turned to how India has navigated an increasingly uncertain global energy landscape. As geopolitical tensions disrupted traditional supply routes and put global energy markets under severe pressure, India’s preparedness and timely decisions helped ensure that energy supplies remained secure. Domestic LPG production was ramped up significantly, from around 34,000 MT per day to 55,000 MT per day, while supplies were diversified through alternative sources and household requirements were accorded priority. The result was uninterrupted availability of essential fuels for our households, industries, transport sector and retail outlets keeping kitchens running, mobility uninterrupted and the wheels of our economy moving. At the height of the Hormuz crisis, India’s LPG supply situation was monitored on a daily basis. With several key suppliers located in and around the region, ensuring that every available cargo reached Indian shores required sustained engagement and seamless coordination. Under the decisive leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, close engagement with our partners in the UAE, along with coordinated efforts by @MEAIndia, the Indian Navy and other agencies, helped keep critical supplies moving. Mr. John Michaël Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection of Mauritius, with whom I had the privilege of laying of the Foundation Stone for the expansion of the IOML bunkering facility.
