Yesterday, Deb Haaland went on NewsNation and said I am unwilling to debate. That isn't true, and she knows it. I went on the same show this morning to set the record straight.
While I immediately confirmed debates on KVIA, KOAT, KRQE and the Albuquerque Journal to be done before early voting, Deb refused… and she's skipped forums across the state.
I committed to a KOB debate the morning after the primary. KOB then set October 8 as the compromise date. It wasn't the date I wanted, and it wasn't the date she wanted either, but it's as close to early voting as we can get, and we both committed to it.
Debates before early voting are crucial so voters can make an informed decision when early voting begins.
Since Deb purposely ran out the clock and pushed her availability well beyond early voting, it will not be fair to the voters who will have already cast their ballot.
I stand by my word. I'll be there on October 8. New Mexico voters deserve to see us side by side.
