this misses the fact builders, tradies, & many truck drivers need tertiary level quals now Student loans aren't just for the rich at uni (indeed, the rich don't get loans, the parents pay), they're also for certificates & diplomas 40% of 25 year olds have a student loan.
Labour wants a truck driver in Pakuranga, a builder in Howick, and a tradie in Bucklands Beach to help pay off the student loans of lawyers and other high earners. Let that sink in for a moment. Hardworking Kiwis footing the bill so that some of the highest earners in the country can pay off their degrees faster. Students who borrow from taxpayers should be expected to pay it back. That's only fair on the millions of Kiwis who graft, pay their taxes and never ask for a handout. We already have one of the most generous student support schemes in the western world. Apparently that's still not enough for Labour, who reckon a few hundred million more won't hurt. Classic Labour. Add it to the tab. They've already racked up more than $18 billion in unfunded spending promises, and the gap between what they've promised and what they can actually pay for keeps growing. National is taking a smarter, fairer path. We want to help graduates get ahead by reducing the compulsory student loan repayment rate from 12% to 10%. Graduates keep more of what they earn while still paying back what they borrowed. No gimmicks, no shifting the burden onto everyone else, just a fairer deal for people who did the right thing and took out a loan in good faith. Because here's the truth Labour won't say out loud. There's no such thing as free money. Someone always pays, and too often it's the tradie in East Auckland. I'd rather focus on growing our economy, creating good jobs, backing our farmers, tradies, workers and small businesses, and giving people a real shot at getting ahead through hard work and ambition. That's the real choice this election. Reward effort, or reward everyone else picking up the tab. Party Vote National 🩵

Unlimited PTO sounds like a progressive perk until you realize it's primarily an accounting maneuver: companies switch to it so they don't have to carry accrued vacation liabilities on their balance sheets or pay them out when employees leave.

The older I get, the more I realise having money isn’t really about buying expensive things. It’s being able to get a £600 car bill on a Monday and be annoyed rather than completely screwed. That’s probably the most boring definition of financial freedom imaginable.

The irony is that the people who repeat the lie that there is "so much help out there for homeless people, they just won't take it" will likely one day become disabled/hurt or sick and have to one day apply to our social safety net and find out how little help there actually is.

I think it's kind of telling that even this dances around the point that what voters don't like is non-white immigration.
It’s because a lot of liberals and leftists have trouble accepting that voter anger over illegal immigration is sincere and deeply felt, rather than a symptom of economic frustrations. I’m nearly as pro-immigrant as you can get, but I think we have to face reality.

Palestinians have been far too kind and tolerant. They are forced to pay for the sins of Europeans, while other communities use them as capital to win favor with Zionists. The world is lucky Palestinians have not resorted to the violence our ancestors used.

There was never a lockdown anywhere in America. You were never forced to stay in your house. At most, you were really inconvenienced for a month, and had to adjust to things being a little different for a while
Two of my friends became anxious during lockdowns and purchased Xanax laced with fentanyl and died. Multiple friends businesses closed forever. Multiple friends became alcoholics and drug addicts. Multiple friends romantic relationships dissolved (mine included.) multiple people caught a glimpse into the nature of what lengths their friend groups were willing to go to to comply with the state by sacrificing their close friendships. That's not even beginning to get into the effect lockdowns had on children. This was a major cataclysmic event and any reports otherwise are revisionist and condescending to the extreme hardship and devastation that they caused.

I don’t think people can truly comprehend the mental toll of being born to average, complacent, poor parents. You see videos of kids being gifted cars, having their college paid for, getting help with a down payment on a house, having six figure jobs lined up, and basically having the choice of whether they even want to work. Meanwhile, you can’t even ask your parents for $500. You’re forced to wage slave your entire life just to build from zero, constantly reminded that the biggest advantage you can have in life is simply being born to the right parents.

Black Americans have been dehumanizing Palestinians and Muslims through policy and social media platforms for years and it has never generated the backlash and outrage we're seeing directed at Palestinians for calling out a Black politician killing them!.
Bigotry in all of its vile forms must be condemned— misogyny, homophobia, antisemitism, xenophobia, ableism, and more. All forms of bigotry is rooted in hatred and we must stop this madness. We all deserve better.

You are the most protected and coddled minority group in the United States and Europe. I really don’t care if a keffiyeh makes you uncomfortable when Palestinian parents have to collect their children’s innards in Ziplock bags.
I think some people’s problem is that they do not see Jews as a legitimate/persecuted minority. But like just because YOU think we are rich and powerful does not mean we are. And the stats don’t lie about hate crimes.

The Jewish persecution narrative is complicated and a lot of it is muddied by the Holocaust and national/revisionist history. Religious persecutions were the norm in Europe during that time and groups like the Huguenots and Cathars suffered far worse fates.
Replying to @PAstynome
Jews being persecuted for so long, for centuries, culminating in the Holocaust, has made Jews around the world feel they are eternal victims. But the entire point of Zionism was to create a nation where Jews were the ones in power, where they would not be at the mercy of others.
