98 YEARS AGO TODAY, THE DOW JONES INDUSTRIAL AVERAGE EXPANDED TO 30 STOCKS
On October 1, 1928, the index grew from 20 companies to 30, the same number it uses today.
The new lineup included General Electric, General Motors, Chrysler, Sears Roebuck, Texaco, U.S. Steel, Westinghouse and Woolworth.
Less than a year later, the market peaked on September 3, 1929. The crash followed weeks after that.
Today, none of those 30 companies are still in the Dow.
