Historically, September has been a tough month for us. We affectionately call the next month “Red Hot October” as we try to recoup September’s struggles. This September started well. First half of the month, we were winning. In the back of my mind I thought, “It’s September…” but this is prediction markets. It’s different. Well, a week later I can ascertain that September still sucks. This will be the first losing month in @ImawhalePM history, and losing sucks. Food starts to taste bad. The weather sucks. You start wondering how you ever won to begin with. A lot of people talk about their wins and how great this business is, so here’s the alternative view: Prediction markets are becoming the most efficient and narrowest markets I’ve ever seen in this industry. MM margins are getting throttled all the time, while the competition to grow volume, improve technology, and find new angles to overcome those shrinking margins is moving at a feverish pace. That’s what makes it fun. We might not end up being the ultimate grand master champion when it’s all said and done, but just getting to play in this tournament has been an absolute blast. Some BBQ this weekend is going to taste great. And I hear it’s finally cooling down in Texas soon. Red Hot October.
