In Fairfax County, Virginia, security staff asked Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano and his chief deputy Kyle Manikas to pass through the public security entrance to the Fairfax County Courthouse. Security footage showed Descano becoming visibly upset, throwing an umbrella, while allegedly yelling at the private courthouse security guards. After viewing the footage, two lieutenants concluded that "both Attorneys demonstrated behavior unsuited for an officer of the court." The lieutenants then found themselves on a Brady list—an unreviewable list of "bad" cops—where they remain years later, despite being cleared of wrongdoing. They're far from the only ones. I was passed these messages from a private Tamil community group. I removed the identity of the H-1B worker because this is not about attacking him. Instead, look at what happened around him. First, he develops an immigration problem after losing his job. Next, someone in the group asks whether they can “steer some help” through Congressman Suhas Subramanyam’s office. Another member says he had just met Subramanyam at an event and could arrange a call. Then, within the same conversation: “I reached out to Suhas and emailed him and forwarded to his immigration team.” — “Connecting his family to Suhas in the morning.” You may have missed it, but the messages say the worker lives in Herndon. Herndon in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District. Subramanyam represents the 10th District. House Ethics guidance says members generally should not devote official resources to casework for people outside their district and can instead refer them to their own representative or senators. I don’t think Subramanyam was summoned based on the district he represents. Remember, this conversation is taking place inside a Tamil community network. So, it’s worth noting that Subramanyam has South Indian family roots, his father grew up in Chennai and he was a congressional co-sponsor of the resolution recognizing Tamil Language and Heritage Month. Sure, we don’t have proof of preferential treatment or what his office ultimately did. But we did get an unusually candid look at how political access in ethnic networks functions: Private ethnic community → personal connection → member of Congress → congressional immigration team. Despite being unable to vote and being out of district, people around him apparently knew exactly who to contact and claimed the personal access to get his case in front of a congressional office. The question I want answered is simple: why was this case being routed through Suhas Subramanyam and what did his office do with it?

I don't think the New York Times coverage of gender clinic closures is that bad. What's missing, however, is genuine curiosity about why the hospitals agreed to settle. This was not a decision taken lightly. It's fair to assume that gender clinicians and their allies within these hospitals, especially those located in blue states, face little-to-no opposition from other doctors or administrators. It's also known that hospitals went to the mat to fight closure efforts previously. That's Exhibit A. So, what's changed? Why the seeming capitulation now? Enter Exhibit B: mounting evidence of billing fraud, which comes from 3 sources. (1) Inferentially, from billing of puberty blockers for treatment of central precocious (abnormally early) puberty in 14- and 15-year-olds. (2) From gender clinicians and quasi-medical groups like WPATH, which has openly and explicitly recommended using "endocrine disorder" when billing for medical interventions in minors without an endocrine disorder (although they are likely to develop such a disorder as a result of treatment). (3) From court records in resolved qui tam lawsuits (e.g., in Texas) that show evidence of False Claims Act violations. The combination of these easily verifiable sources, together with the unexpected willingness of blue state hospitals to settle with the DOJ, should trigger curiosity about the leverage the DOJ actually had over NYU, Mt. Sinai, and other hospitals. It seems highly implausible that hospitals in New York, with Letitia James and Mamdani paying close attention, would shutter their clinics and pay out millions of $ unless the DOJ had court-proof evidence of billing fraud. Also, it's September 2026, and the New York Times still hasn't done an investigative report on how major medical associations and scientific journals have promoted misinformation and stifled debate on youth gender medicine.

These guys ran Shoosmith into the ground, pocketed millions from land sales, then left Virginia with a leaking landfill and a massive cleanup bill. Now they are fugitives in Texas. Extradite them, try the case, and go after the assets. Private operators should not be able to walk away and leave the public to clean up. The immediate priorities remain the same: keep the leachate contained, get test results public, and make sure the next private landfill cannot repeat this.

In a small number of cases, prosecutors have considered changing a DUI to a different first-degree misdemeanor so the defendant can renew DACA status. She says the defendant is still held accountable and the original DUI charge remains visible. But DACA status is a factor in the plea resolution, one that an American citizen charged with the same offense cannot invoke.
