AA update: The Frame Transactions EIP was moved today to Scheduled status for the Hegotá upgrade. It was proposed as a headliner and moved in March of this year to Considered status. There was strong consensus that it was important to ship Account Abstraction in Hegotá even if the specific implementation was still up for debate. There's been a lot of progress in the past few weeks as another implementation, EIP-8130, became a contender. This EIP is scheduled to be shipped on @base in September. It spurred productive conversation async and in a breakout this past Tuesday about the best way to not fracture standards across the ecosystem by shipping two incompatible Account Abstraction implementations between the L1 and L2s. The crux of the issue is arriving at a shared transaction type that both preserves flexibility and future-proofness for the L1 and allows L2s to statically analyze transactions for performance and DoS-resistance reasons. At a minimum, we should make sure that the AA scheme we adopt for the L1 is flexible enough that 8130, or any future account system, can be built on top of it so that from the user's perspective the same account can work across L1 and L2s. Authors of both EIPs, core devs, researchers, and testing teams have been working toward a solution that respects the imperative to get Account Abstraction in the next fork without delay but avoids fracturing ecosystem standards. That said - Account Abstraction _will_ ship in Hegotá, so core devs decided today to move EIP-8141 from Considered to Scheduled today. This was made with the caveat that the version of Account Abstraction that ships in Hegotá may significantly change from what's on the Hegotá Meta EIP right now: potentially the EIP number, the transaction type, etc. The move to Scheduled doesn't materially change the conversation that's been happening over the past few weeks or enshrine the current spec. When an EIP is proposed as a headliner and moved to Scheduled, it just signals an intention to make the fork schedule dependent on that feature being shipped. It's more common than not for the implementation to change significantly between being Scheduled and shipping. Big appreciation to @_chunter of @base, @Offchain, @EthLabs_org, and client teams for moving the conversation forward. Enter: EthCoordinate. tl;dr: EthCoordinate is a crypto-native organization born inside the EthStaker community, bringing together separate efforts under one umbrella to help with Ethereum governance coordination, support Forkcast, increase stakeholder engagement on proposed or upcoming EIPs and, of course, continue providing software, tooling, and technical support for home stakers. EthStaker started in 2020 when a loosely connected group of Ethereum enthusiasts joined efforts to speed up the development of the beacon chain. The organization steadily evolved, incorporating as a 501(c)4 nonprofit and taking up initiatives around independent participants of Ethereum's consensus mechanism, aka home stakers. Throughout the years, it has played a decisive role in coordinating the launch and operation of devnets, testnets, and mainnet hard fork upgrades; facilitating information flows and generally connecting dots that needed connecting. This year's tectonic organizational changes in the ecosystem have opened up functional gaps in Ethereum coordination. To close these gaps and continue supporting the network, EthStaker's core members are joined by mission-aligned fresh blood to aggregate efforts under one name to produce greater results than operating independently. EthCoordinate is a natural evolution of EthStaker; as Ethereum mainnet heads to its third radical consensus protocol change at a steady pace, it’s time for EthStaker to recalibrate around what Ethereum’s evolving community needs. Our mission is to facilitate interaction between stakeholders of the ecosystem to accelerate the adoption of the Ethereum network and to provide continuity for governance operations. We believe that the Ethereum mainnet is an unparalleled bedrock for the augmentation of humanity's productivity output and that ETH, the asset, is the token that aligns the incentives of all actors involved. We stand up for our values, combining technical rigor with pragmatism for Ethereum to continue being the most accessible and credibly neutral global blockchain. Probably the right time to finally mention that I left the Ethereum Foundation in April of this year. But through the support of the Protocol Guild and EthCoordinate, I'm not going anywhere. Ethereum's open governance process is made up of a loose coalition of organizations and individuals working to keep Ethereum the exemplar of technical excellence and resilience in a landscape of unprecedented, constantly evolving technology. I continue to work to facilitate this process to the best of my ability. I'm grateful to announce that I'll be jointly funded by the Protocol Guild and this new organization, EthCoordinate. An ACD facilitator role operating from within the PG represents a meaningful step toward making the governance process more autonomous from any one organization - and perhaps a stepping stone toward more such frameworks. The team that I led at the EF, Protocol Support, took on a majority of the technical support around governance and published the Forkcast website before being disbanded in June. By continuing to work closely with EthCoordinate and the Protocol cluster at the EF, we can make certain that these roles have continuity and transparency, and that the humans involved have the support they need to keep the Ethereum community engaged and up-to-date in a fully open process. Doubling down on tooling and resources to ensure that the community knows what's going on in governance isn't a 'nice to have', it's fundamental to Ethereum's culture.
