It is a brilliant, enduring framework designed to protect the citizen from the overreach of the powerful. Yet today, certain social media platforms are effectively bypassing this heritage. Under the guise of creating "safe spaces" or managing content, they act as modern gatekeepers—amplifying divisive outrage to keep users hooked while quietly shadowbanning or silencing perspectives that don't fit their opaque corporate agendas. By controlling the flow of information, deciding what trends, and determining who gets a megaphone—these platforms are manipulating the very essence of free expression. They hide behind their status as private entities to escape constitutional obligations, yet they demand the influence and protection of a public square. This is a subtle, dangerous usurpation of our foundational rights, turning a birthright of free expression into a highly monitored privilege. When the algorithms dictate what we can see, hear, and say, we are no longer operating in a free marketplace of ideas. What must we do as a society to reclaim our digital public square and prevent these platforms from eroding the constitutional rights that have sustained us for generations?

And the hypocrisy is almost too perfect: helping Americans afford health care is “socialism” and a corrupt welfare handout, but a legally dubious cash-payment promise from Trump is suddenly patriotic genius.
