Fox Varian was 16. In 2019 a psychologist and a plastic surgeon cleared her for a double mastectomy.
Her mother, Claire Deacon, was not on board. She told psychologist Kenneth Einhorn the surgery was never going to happen. Then came the pressure. She was told her daughter might kill herself, or seriously harm herself, if they did not go through with it. A mother who had already said no was handed a suicide threat and a consent form.
Unbelievable.
That is not care. That is leverage. A doctor does not get to scare a parent into signing off on removing healthy body parts from a child. Deacon consented under that pressure. Surgeon Simon Chin performed the operation.
Varian later detransitioned. She sued. On January 30, 2026, after a three-week trial in Westchester County, a jury found both the psychologist and the surgeon liable for malpractice. $2 million. $1.6 million for pain and suffering. $400,000 for the medical bills still ahead. First verdict of its kind in the country.
This should be banned for minors in America. All 50 states. At least until they are 18 and of a consenting age to choose what they want to do.
