"The arrogance of the oligarchs is extraordinary. THEY WANT IT ALL."
Bernie.
Buddy.
I read this three times. Not because it's complicated. It's four sentences and a bumper sticker. I read it three times because I honestly couldn't believe the man who typed it owns a mirror. He owns three houses, so I figured at least one of them came with a bathroom.
Let's start with "they want it all," because that one made me spit coffee on my lesson plans.
Yesterday, YESTERDAY, you posted a wish list. Free health care. Free college. Seven million houses. A twenty dollar minimum wage. A brand-new energy system. And not one price tag. Not one. Your Medicare for All plan all by itself was scored at around 32 trillion dollars over ten years. Thirty-two TRILLION. If you stacked that in one-dollar bills, you could get to the moon and back a few times and still have enough left over to fly private to the rally.
And then today you point across the room and yell "THEY WANT IT ALL."
Bernie. Come on. YOU want it all. You want my paycheck. You want my kids' paychecks before they've even earned them. You want the paycheck of the electrician down the street, the nurse pulling nights, the custodian at my school, and the waitress working a double on a Saturday so her kids can have new shoes. Your shopping list is longer than the Constitution and the Bill of Rights stapled together, and you're calling somebody ELSE greedy?
The top one percent already pays about 40 percent of all federal income taxes. The bottom half pays about 3 percent. And you still climb up on the podium screaming they're not paying enough. So how much is enough, Bernie? Fifty? Seventy? All of it? Oh, wait. You already told us. "They want it all." That wasn't an accusation, Senator. That was a confession. You just pointed it the wrong way.
Your cornbread isn't done in the middle, my friend.
Now. "Arrogance." Oh, I've been waiting for you to bring that word up. I really have.
When a reporter asked you why you were flying around on $15,000-an-hour private jets during your "Fighting Oligarchy" tour, you basically said no apologies, you weren't going to sit in some waiting line at United. Read that again. Slowly. The man lecturing America about arrogant billionaires told a reporter, on the record, that he's too important to wait in line at the airport like the working people he says he's fighting for.
Your campaign dropped $221,000 on chartered jets in ONE quarter of 2025. One quarter! There are families in my district who don't make that in four years. You own three houses. You've been on a taxpayer salary for thirty-five years with a taxpayer pension waiting for you at the finish line. You made a pile of money writing books about how nobody should have a pile of money.
And YOU get to lecture somebody else about arrogance?
That's a skunk complaining about the smell in the room, Bernie. You're running a sixty-watt ego on a two-watt brain. You're the smartest man in any room, as long as you're alone in it. With the lights off.
"Musk and other billionaires will spend huge amounts of money."
Oh, you mean like your side does? Let's go ahead and do the part you always leave out.
Kamala Harris raised about a billion and a half dollars in roughly fifteen weeks in 2024. A BILLION AND A HALF. Hollywood money, Wall Street money, celebrity concerts, Beyoncé, Oprah, the whole circus. She outspent Trump. And she lost anyway. So much for billionaires buying elections. Turns out people care a lot more about the price of eggs than the price of the celebrity on stage.
Michael Bloomberg spent about a billion of his own dollars in YOUR primary in 2020. You were standing right there on the same debate stage. A billion dollars, and he won American Samoa. That's it. That's the whole haul. Most expensive souvenir in human history.
George Soros dropped more than 125 million dollars into his Democracy PAC in one check. Then there's Reid Hoffman, Tom Steyer, the teachers' unions, the public employee unions. Hundreds of millions, every single election, almost all of it pointed one direction.
What's next, Democrats electing a billionaire who pays for his own campaigns out of the family fortune and then handing him an entire state to run... wait. I'm being told Illinois already did that. JB Pritzker. Billionaire. Democrat. Governor. I've never seen you draw one of your little red boxes around HIS net worth. Not once.
That's Quinn's Law Number Five: when liberalism runs into reality, reality is supposed to get out of the way. In your world a billionaire is an "oligarch" right up until he writes a check to a Democrat. Then he's a "donor." Then he's a "philanthropist." Then he's "Governor." Same money. Same guy. Different jersey. You're about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.
And then there's Elon. You say his name like it's a cuss word. Fine. Let's talk about Elon.
The man came here from South Africa and BUILT things. Real things you can touch. Tens of thousands of American factory jobs. Rockets so much cheaper than the government's that NASA hires HIM now. Starlink, which finally gave internet to rural families the cable companies ignored for twenty years. When Hurricane Helene wiped out those mountain towns in North Carolina and the phones were dead, Starlink showed up. I was a medic. I know what it means when the radio finally crackles back on in a disaster. It means people get found.
Then he went to Washington with DOGE and started pointing at fraud, waste, and abuse. And who fought him? Your side. Every time. Every single time.
So here's the question nobody on the left will ever answer for me. Why are you fighting so hard to PROTECT fraud, waste, and abuse? What are you so scared somebody's going to find? When an honest man sees somebody auditing the books, he pulls up a chair and hands him a calculator. Only a guy with something to hide slams the drawer.
Elon spends his own money. Money he earned building stuff people chose to buy. You spend other people's money, money the government TOOK from them, and then you call HIM the problem. Bernie, you couldn't find oil in Texas with a map, a shovel, and a guy standing next to you pointing at the ground.
Now my favorite line. "So that Congress works for them, not working families."
I actually laughed out loud at this one. My wife asked what was so funny. I told her Bernie Sanders just blamed Congress.
Bernie. You ARE Congress. You've BEEN Congress since 1991. If Congress doesn't work for working families, who exactly do you think has been driving the bus? Elon Musk isn't in Congress. He can't pass a law. He can't raise your taxes. He can't write one line of the tax code. You can. You have. For thirty-five years.
And what's in the trophy case after thirty-five years? Two renamed post offices and a veterans cost-of-living adjustment. That's it. You're the coach with thirty-five straight losing seasons who still blames the fans in the bleachers.
And the stuff you DID vote for? That's worse. You voted for the Affordable Care Act, and individual-market premiums in the
HealthCare.gov states more than doubled between 2013 and 2017. You chaired the Budget Committee in 2021 and pushed through 1.9 trillion dollars, and by June of 2022 inflation hit 9.1 percent. Forty-year high. I remember standing in the grocery store with a cart full of food for my kids, doing math in my head, and quietly putting stuff back on the shelf. That was YOUR rescue, Bernie. Then you voted for the Inflation Reduction Act, which extended the temporary COVID Obamacare subsidies with an expiration date that DEMOCRATS picked. Not one Republican voted for it. So when premiums jumped this year, you were standing at the top of a cliff you built yourself, pointing at the guy at the bottom.
And the stuff you voted AGAINST? The 2017 tax cuts that cut taxes for about nine out of ten middle-income families. No. No tax on tips. No. No tax on overtime. No. A bigger child tax credit. No. Every single time working families had a shot at keeping a little more of their own money, Bernie Sanders was standing in the doorway saying no.
So who does Congress work for, Senator? Going by your voting record, it works for Congress. Your porch swing doesn't go all the way back, does it?
You want to talk about real oligarchs, Bernie? Let's talk about your honeymoon.
You went to the Soviet Union for your HONEYMOON. 1988. And you came back impressed. Most people go to Niagara Falls. You went to see the bread lines.
Over there, the party bosses had country houses, special stores stocked with things regular people never laid eyes on, chauffeured black cars, and the good hospitals. The regular worker got a bread line, a waiting list for an apartment, and a knock on the door if he complained too loud. THAT is an oligarchy. A small group of people who control the government, control the money, control the jobs, and never, ever have to wait in line.
Sound familiar? "You think I'm gonna sit in a waiting line at United?"
Here's the difference between an American billionaire and a Soviet party boss. The billionaire got rich selling you something you wanted. The party boss got rich taking whatever he wanted. And every single idea you have gives MORE power over our money, our health care, our jobs, and our homes to the people who run the government. People like you.
You're not fighting the oligarchy, Bernie. You're applying for the job.
"We can beat them." Can you, though? Really?
Bernie, you couldn't even beat your own party. Twice. In 2016, the Democratic establishment lined up behind Hillary, and their own former interim chair, Donna Brazile, later wrote that a fundraising deal handed the Clinton campaign huge control over the DNC before the primary was even over. And you? You endorsed Hillary anyway. In 2020 they cleared the field for Joe Biden in about 48 hours. And you? You endorsed Biden anyway.
What's next, Bernie getting steamrolled by his own party's establishment and then smiling for the cameras while he endorses the guy who ran him over... wait. I'm being told that already happened. Twice.
You couldn't organize a two-car parade, Senator. All bark, no bite, and even the bark comes with a donate button.
Now, "Educate." Okay, Bernie. Now you're talking my language. That's literally my job. So let's do it. Pull up a desk.
Let's educate people that the United States is a constitutional republic, not a democracy, and the Founders did that on purpose, so fifty-one percent of the voters couldn't vote themselves the paychecks of the other forty-nine. Madison warned in Federalist No. 10 about majorities pushing for "an equal division of property." He called it a "wicked project." Not me. James Madison.
Let's educate people that "tax the rich" started in 1913 as a one percent tax on the wealthiest Americans, and now it takes a bite out of just about every working paycheck in the country.
Let's educate people that a twenty dollar minimum wage doesn't give a seventeen-year-old kid a raise. It locks him out of his first job. I teach those kids, Bernie. I've watched them fill out applications. I've watched them get turned away. You've never once had to look one of them in the eye and tell him nobody's hiring.
Let's educate people that "free" college and "free" health care get paid for by the electrician who never went to college and the waitress who can't afford to get sick.
And let's educate people that a man who's been in Congress for thirty-five years doesn't get to blame "oligarchs" for how Congress turned out.
Class is in session, Senator. You're just not going to like the lesson plan. Your thinking cap is on backwards, and I'm pretty sure it's on the wrong head.
"Organize. Get your friends to vote."
Okay, this part I actually agree with. Somebody write down the date. Bernie Sanders and I agree on something.
Everybody reading this: organize. Get your friends to vote. Get your family to vote. Get your coworkers to vote. Get the guy at the gas station who complains about prices every single morning to vote. And before any of them fill in a bubble, ask them one question.
"Were you better off when Bernie's side ran the House, the Senate, and the White House in 2021 and 2022?"
Nine percent inflation. Record gas prices. Grocery bills through the roof. Then ask them if they want to go back.
Bernie, you just told millions of people to think hard about how they vote. That might be the nicest thing you've done for Republicans all year. You're a Wi-Fi signal in a basement. One bar shows up every once in a while, and even then it's connected to the other guy's network.
So here's my standing offer, Bernie, and this time it comes with extras.
I keep hearing Democrats scream about the rich while BEING the rich. They know every loophole in the tax code because a lot of them helped write those loopholes, and then they use them on their own returns. So file with the standard deduction only. No itemizing. No fancy accountant. Pay DOUBLE what the IRS says you owe. Sell two of your three houses and give the money to a working family in Vermont. Then fly COMMERCIAL to your next rally. Middle seat. Back row. Right next to the bathroom. And wait in line at United like the rest of us. Post the receipts. All of them.
Do that, and I'll listen to you lecture America about arrogance. Until then you're an empty suit stuffed with bumper stickers. All foam, no beer. A trapdoor on a canoe. A waterproof tea bag. A lighthouse in the middle of the desert, flashing away, warning everybody about a shipwreck that only exists in your own head.
I think you've spent so many years being the loudest guy in the room that you forgot to check whether anybody in the room was actually doing better. They weren't. They aren't. And you're still passing the collection plate.
You've been wrong so long that even a broken clock feels sorry for you. At least the clock is right twice a day.
The oligarchs don't want it all, Bernie. The oligarchs want you to buy their phone, drive their car, and use their internet, and if you don't want to, you don't have to. Nobody's making you. YOU want it all. Their money, my money, your neighbor's money, and my grandkids' money. And if we say no, you'll just pass a law.
That's the difference between a businessman and a politician. One of them has to earn your money. The other one just takes it.
But what do I know? I'm only a physics teacher and a retired Army medic who does the "educate" part of your slogan for a living, which is one more part than you've managed in thirty-five years.
