Personal statement regarding Zionism is Racism" motion.
Today I voted AGAINST the “Zionism is Racism” motion.
I want to be really clear about what that means.
I completely condemn the actions of the Israeli Government and the horrific suffering of Palestinians. I support Palestinian rights and I will continue speaking out for them. My vote today changes absolutely none of that.
What I could not support was declaring Zionism itself to be racism and the consequences I fear that will have for Jewish people in and outside our movement.
I voted FOR the amendment which sought to explicitly reaffirm our opposition to antisemitism and protect Jewish members from exclusion, hostility and being collectively blamed for the actions of Israel.
That amendment was rejected. I’m angry and genuinely upset about that.
Supporting Palestinians does not require us to make Jewish people feel unwelcome. Condemning the Israeli Government does not mean blaming Jewish people. These things should not be difficult to say.
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive movement. After today, I’m genuinely worried about what message we have sent to our Jewish community.
I also fear this will do more harm than good to the fight for Palestinian rights.
I need some time now to process what is happening, reflect on what this means, and seriously consider my next steps.

These are the five commitments we asked Reform to work with us on. They refused.
Now, they’re splitting the vote and handing Labour victories that should belong to the Right.
That offer is still on the table.
Sooner or later, Reform will have to accept that we represent a legitimate, serious, and growing current within the British electorate. Simply pretending it does not exist will not make it disappear.
