Simple break this down for the boomers (and almost boomers): - The government took money from you under the premise you would get it back. - They spent it. - You kept reelecting them knowing that. - Now you’re demanding they take more money from your grandkids to pay you back. - If you don’t get back what you paid in it was just means you paid more taxes… like you’re demanding your grandkids pay. - You’ll still wonder why nobody likes you.

“Keep what they were promised”, but the lie has been widely known for 40 something years and ignored until the bill is finally coming due. Ok 👌

I keep seeing these arguments and it leaves out the fact that the older population paid into Social Security their entire lives with the promise it would be there for them one day. It could easily be said that it would be morally reprehensible to rip it from them.
I understand that the social security conversation is political poison. But I’m not running for office so I don’t care about that. Taking huge chunks out of the paychecks of young working Americans in order to pay for the retirements of older Americans who have a net worth several times higher, all to prop up a system that everyone knows likely won’t be there when those younger people are retirement age themselves, is morally abhorrent and economically insane. Everyone knows it, too, but we’re held hostage by elderly politicians who refuse to surrender power, and older voters who, as a group (with exceptions, obviously), simply don’t care all that much about the financial and cultural future their grandchildren will inherit.

They paid for the older generations when they were young. Why wouldn’t they expect the same?
32

Because now our population is going to collapse. There are less young people then elderly. Do you expect to extract even more wealth from the young, so they have an even harder time? What about Gen Alpha, the smallest generation so far? Are they expected to pay double? End SSI.

So, the cartel wants to kidnap Feds and cops. That would be a mistake. There’s a bunch of dudes waiting for the chance to do this…
#EXCLUSIVE: The cartel is threatening to kidnap federal agents and officers at the Texas southern border according to an internal alert obtained through DHS sources. The alert says a known “alien smuggler” is planning to smuggle multiple illegal immigrants from Colombia and Venezuela into the United States— “Initial reporting indicates that the purpose of this operation may include attempts to target and kidnap CBP law enforcement personnel within the Presidio and El Paso areas of operation." Via @CBP, “CBP maintains proactive intelligence on all foreign actors that are a threat to the homeland. All relevant information is diligently vetted with appropriate partners to determine validity. The specific tactics, procedures, and methods CBP uses to mitigate these threats and ensure the safety of CBP personnel and equities is robust. CBP does not comment on these methods to ensure the continued safety of our interests and the American Homeland.”

I was told in the 90s in high school in Indiana that Social Security would not be a thing when I retired. My husband was told the same in New York. By Boomers. So guess what we did? We did our best to plan our retirement excluding SS. For the past 30 years. We developed other retirement plans. We found other streams. It’s not perfect and it’s not fail-proof but it should keep us alive, pretty comfortable, and not a burden on our kids, even if we need full time care. Apparently, the Boomers did not take their own advice. That is no one’s fault but their own. And I don’t think many Xers and Millennials will be considering their lack of planning as our current emergency come voting day. Y’all had DECADES of power to fix it. I don’t wanna hear the crying now.

So you paid thousands into SS for no expected benefit? How magnanimous of you. Are you aware that there are scores of millions of people who were unable to save like you did (such as people completely wiped out by successive market crashes)?

We should have a vote on ending Social Security. Anyone collecting currently is excluded from the vote. Those currently paying in (who won't ever see a dime) should be the only ones eligible to vote. What do you think the results will be?
Since I was a child I was told Social Security won't be there for me even though I have to pay into it my whole life. That's why I've never accounted for SS for my retirement. If I get anything it will be a bonus. Apparently boomers, who claim they are the smartest generation ever, planned their retirement solely around a socialism pyramid scheme.

Boomers tell us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, then cry and complain when they can't leech every last penny from younger generations to fund their retirement after being the primary beneficiaries of the greatest economic period in American history. Why do they need so much of our money? Sounds like they should take their own advice and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and stop being so entitled. Everything they accuse the younger generations of being is what they actually are. It's all projection.

So how is this game?
AION 2 is blowing up on Steam, the MMORPG hit almost 400k concurrent players on launch day thanks to amazing character customization That’s more than 2.3× its Early Access peak of 171,530 players, which was already impressive considering Early Access required a Founder’s Pack. The game also reached #1 on Steam’s Global Top Sellers chart during Early Access.

One down. Two to go. Quebec just elected a sovereignist government that has promised a referendum on independence. Next is Alberta, where voters decide on October 19 whether to trigger a binding referendum on sovereignty. Saskatchewan is watching.

Quebec has been wanting independence for years! The US would be happy to add 3 or 4 provinces into our beloved country!!! The politics coming out of Ontario is way to radical leftist for the remaining 12 provinces!

In 1983, boomers voted for a tax increase on themselves so the money wouldn't run out for the older generation. You don't have to do the same, boomers aren't the majority of the voters. If you decide to let benefits go down 20%, they will be lower for you also. Choose wisely.

Boomer's paid for their parents..there was very little social security then as it was new. I don't see many kids stepping up to care for aging parents either. As a Gen X who does..I am in the minority.

On average, Boomers are getting paid more from Social Security than they “paid into it.” A lot more. Like double, and that’s counting inflation and interest. In raw dollars, they’ll get four to seven times what they paid in. So what about this compromise, to at least stave off insolvency and save billions: you get back what you paid in, but no more. Young families won’t be forced to finance a 250 percent return on your “investment.” That seems extremely reasonable, doesn’t it? It doesn’t go nearly as far as I would like. But it’s a very fair compromise. It completely negates any claim that you didn’t get the money back that you “paid in.” And yet I suspect that this comprise will not be satisfactory. Why is that? Because this debate actually has nothing to do with “getting back what you paid in.” The REAL demand is for a lot more than that.

why do tax payers still pay government pensions then? let police, teachers, firefighters pay therevown way, not one fucking tax dollar to their retirement which is usually in their mid 50s

Can you just shut up! I’m really so tired of you. I wonder how the younger generation will treat you when you get there. Maybe you’re rich so you can just skate into retirement. Some of us had sickness where it took every cent of our savings even with insurance to cover it. Now all we are left with is SS and a small retirement in a 401K that’s left. I don’t wish that on you or anyone. But you have a very cold soul! 😑
