I was raised in abject rural poverty by a single mother, so I know firsthand how important programs like SNAP can be for families who truly need them. That’s why I commend @SecRollins for cracking down on billions of dollars in fraud and abuse so resources go where they’re intended .

I’m down in Richland Center today talking with residents and local leaders to hear directly from folks who will be affected by these proposed transmission lines. Last week, I asked Governor Evers, in good faith, to put a moratorium on BECI and MariBell until the serious concerns of affected landowners, farmers, and communities are addressed. Instead, he pointed to a bureaucracy and washed his hands of it. That isn’t good enough for any of us. We are not going to give up our homes because Tony Evers is too cowardly to lead. I’m going to keep fighting for the people who call the Driftless home.

Congressman Derrick Van Orden released the following statement on @GovEvers response to his letter calling for a moratorium on the proposed BECI and MariBell 765-kV transmission lines through Wisconsin’s Driftless Region, claiming he cannot do anything about the projects. Read Van Orden’s full statement below. “The reason a PSC exists is so politicians can hide behind bureaucrats. Governor Evers appointed all three members of the Public Service Commission. Every single one. So when Tony Evers says he has no ability to influence what happens, Wisconsin taxpayers deserve to know why he is pretending to be powerless when the people making these decisions are his own appointees. You can’t put a mailbox in the ground without going through the DNR, yet Tony Evers would have Wisconsin believe that nothing can be done to protect the Driftless Region from massive transmission lines being forced through communities that do not want them. Tony Evers has already authorized a 400-year property tax increase on Wisconsin families, but now claims his hands are tied when it comes to protecting the Driftless Region. After wielding the power of his office to raise costs on Wisconsin taxpayers for generations, he suddenly wants us to believe he is powerless. I call bullshit. We asked Governor Evers in good faith to stand up for the Driftless Region. Instead, he pointed to a bureaucracy and washed his hands of it. Today, I sent @GovEvers a letter urging him to use his executive authority to immediately enact a moratorium on the proposed BECI and MariBell 765-kV transmission lines through Wisconsin’s Driftless Region. I’ve heard directly from the landowners, farmers, and communities who would be impacted by these projects. Before these massive transmission corridors move forward, we need answers about their impact on agriculture, property, the environment, and our groundwater. #WI03 families deserve to have these concerns fully addressed before their land and communities are permanently impacted.

I just voted YES on the Ratepayer Protection Act. Wisconsin families shouldn’t be stuck paying higher utility bills to subsidize massive energy demands, including from data centers. This bill protects Wisconsin families and makes sure the costs of powering our growing economy don’t get dumped on us here in #WI03. I won’t let big corporations squeeze our hardworking families for their gain.

The House passed the Farm Bill in April. The House passed year-round E15 in May. Now it’s time for the Senate Ag Committee to pass the 700+ bills we’ve sent over, including critical legislation for #WI03 farmers and agriculture.
