Woodcock shooting season starts today in most of the UK (Scotland was 1 Sep).
Continental birds have not arrived yet so any shot birds will be red-listed British breeders.
GWCT suggests waiting until 1 December before targeting Woodcock.

Fingers crossed there’ll be discussion of how outdated, dysfunctional land use is building the fires that climate change is lighting. Land like this must be allowed to return to a rich, fire-resilient mosaic of diverse habitats, including broadleaf trees, free from sheep grazing.
Tonight visited a dramatic wildfire scene in South Wales, where the blaze has caused problems for livestock feed, and that could have a knock-on effect on the price of the food we buy.
