I'm relieved that Glasgow City Council has been forced to pause its shameful fire and rehire plan. This is a massive victory for the joint trade unions and the 23,000 workers who stood strong to defend their livelihoods. ​While this pause is welcome, council workers should never have faced this threat in the first place. It should now be taken off the table completely. The UK Labour Government’s Employment Rights Act will end this disgraceful practice and make fire and rehire illegal for good from January. We will continue to stand with council workers until a fair deal is secured.

Thank you to @mgshanks for his visit to Aberdeen. It was good to catch up on all things energy. Aberdeen has a strong story to tell and @GBEnergyHQ will only enhance the city as a leading energy provider. @andyburnham has said energy transition should be handled pragmatically.
