Sunday marks the six-year anniversary from when the Glass Fire started in 2020. This fire ended up burning 67,484 acres across Napa and Sonoma counties, destroying 1,520 structures. It ranks today as the 12th-most destructive wildfire in California history in terms of structures lost. This photo was taken on the night the Glass Fire broke out, captured just after 7 p.m. facing hillside flames above a vineyard off of Crystal Springs Road in Napa County. Six years later, the reminder remains the same - wildfire can happen quickly, and being prepared before it starts can make all the difference. The Big Island of Hawaii certainly dodged a close call with Hurricane Nolo. While the prolonged easterly fetch did lead to heavy rain on the eastern side of the island, a farther north storm would've led to far more significant impacts from a near-stationary hurricane.

There still remain only a small minority of models showing Nolo making a dangerously close approach to the Big Island. The rest of the guidance - including Google's new WNV3 model - keep Nolo far south enough for no direct impact from its inner core.

What a flight into high-end Category 5 Hurricane #Polo. We got a ton of strong wind observations, and it was awesome to see @NHC_Pacific be able to use them to accurately assess the storm's intensity. Especially impressive was one of our S0 drones which measured winds about 500m above the surface of over 200 knots! We got a ton of ocean probes out too. This will be a very valuable dataset.

On the eve of his 18th season, Curry commits on a new extension honoring his desire to finish his NBA career with the Warriors. He also took $20 million less than his maximum salary, per @BobbyMarks42, accepting a deal that now gives the Warriors significant cap space next summer. Golden State presented Curry with a slew of options -- max deals, discounted salaries for team-building upside, or waiting into the season or next offseason. But both sides land on a critical extension to bring clarity on the season and lock in Curry for year 19 and potentially 20.

Flying from Mississippi to Hawaii yesterday it was mostly clear until we got about 300 miles out from the islands. Scattered clouds became a layer at 22k feet that we skimmed across the top of. Checking satellite imagery it turned out to be an extended band from Hurricane Nolo. After crossing through that there were just smaller puffy clouds that looked interesting as we landed as the sun was setting in Kauai. Time lapse below:

Back on the ground in Kauai. This spike in flight level winds to 71 knots on the last outbound leg did the trick. I'll be back in the air tomorrow night, possibly then as a major hurricane
