President Trump has been casually asserting, including this morning at the UN, that people realized they couldn't use the phrase "global warming" anymore because they realized the planet was actually "cooling, not warming." He makes no acknowledgment of the ongoing global warming that people very much still discuss even while also referring more broadly to "climate change." wmo.int/news/media-centre/wm… svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/5607/

The quality of Trump's sycophants has declined this term.

Your regular reminder that excluding crude oil the US has always had a large trade surplus with Canada.
Trump: "Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots, and has long created a 60 Billion Dollar Deficit between our two Countries. Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE! On January First, 2027, Tariffs on all Cars, Trucks, both large and small, Automotive Parts, and Steel, will be increased to 50%. Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFS. Canada will be treated like a State no longer! On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! They do 95% of their business with the U.S., with us, the exact opposite! Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP"

Can you imagine if we took the $5B for the Billy Bishop expansion and invested it in Toronto's waterfront? It could be an amazing asset that serves everyone and becomes a world-class tourist & business destination. Let's think big rather than serve special interests.

What all of these posts ignore is that the quality of a city’s waterfront, public spaces, and quality of life are also economic drivers, and we only have one waterfront whereas we have another airport, well-connected to downtown, that is already investing billions on expansion.
Canada wants to pretend it’s a serious country but then shuts down a major downtown airport expansion in our largest and most economically relevant city. Not what a serious country does!

Folks keep talking about the great business case for BBTCA expansion. BIG EMPLOYMENT NUMBERS!! BIG ECONOMIC SPIN-OFFS!! But never back up the talk with serious objective analysis to support those numbers. Talk's cheap.
The sad irony here is that there is no business case for Alto and there is a strong one for Billy Bishop. cbc.ca/news/politics/billy-b…

That murky plume in Toronto Harbour isn’t an accident, it’s 9 sewer outfalls plus the Don River. It already struggles to flush. A new report shows a Billy Bishop runway expansion would cut harbour flow in half. Time for a public summit on this waterfront. open.substack.com/pub/waterk…

Funny way of saying swimmable drinkable fishable harbours are valuable assets to cities & business. But yes, “we know knowledge workers value urban amenities and access to nature. If our waterfront becomes less attractive, Toronto becomes less attractive to knowledge workers.”

New city report: expanding Billy Bishop’s runway could cut water flow through Toronto’s Inner Harbour by 50%, trapping sewage and pollutants twice as long & undo billions spent cleaning up the harbour. “It’s reckless,” cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/t…

The Globe’s Billy Bishop editorial reduced Toronto’s harbour to “some impact on boats.” No one has published how much lake gets filled in, so I did the math & came up with 60,000 truckloads for a project currently illegal under its own governing agreement open.substack.com/pub/waterk…
