Burnham's taxpayer funded loans, to one of the wealthiest families in the world, at interest rates we're not allowed to know, is finally to be scrutinised. It'll be interesting to see what it throws up. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…

I'm still waiting for @tonyvaughanMP for #FolkestoneAndHythe to explain to us constituents why he and his colleagues think Rejoining is a good idea. I spotted something in a parliamentary committee speech about "lies" told during the Brexit debate (without saying that it was actually the Remain campaign that lied). But he has never commented on the highly misleading data suggesting Brexit has adversely affected the UK, compared with other nations. And certainly nothing about all the trade deals with GROWING economies outside Europe. Equally, he's offered absolutely no defence of the TOTALLY UNDEMOCRATIC way in which all decisions are made in the EU.
Lord Frost says rejoining could cost up to £20Bn, for "the doubtful privilege of having them make our laws without asking us". Brexit gave Britain its own laws back. Why pay Brussels to take them away again? #Brexit britbrief.co.uk/politics/bre…

Former trade minister Nigel Huddleston warns Burnham's EU realignment could complicate Britain's post Brexit trade deals with more than 70 non EU countries. Those deals exist because we left. Obviously! #Brexit britbrief.co.uk/politics/bre…

Microsoft has pulled out of Nscale's AI data centre in Essex. The reported reason: the site can't get enough grid power until the early 2030s. Britain has 743GW of projects contracted to connect to the grid. Only 81GW is built. AI investment goes where the power is.

Reassuringly, the IMF agrees with our Director, @DamianPudner, that imposing further taxes on Britain's banks is the wrong priority for the Chancellor. Read our Director's full argument below.

Looking at the horrific and heartbreaking scenes in France tonight @andyburnham are you still delusional in thinking our future lies out of our hands?

Anyone taken there car to a garage with a fault only to leave finding the fault still present? Often you leave the garage with no paperwork if it is under warranty so no proof. On occasions it safety critical repair. How about a safety Certification garages issue to car owners

Joining the EU has been CATASTROPHIC for UK. £500bn in fees (today's £) in return for 3.5m jobs lost. Don't let the Remoaners get away with their lies.

May we suggest you continue to 'deal' with the water crisis by i) importing millions of illegal migrants, and ii) building no new reservoirs. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq0l…

MMT is effectively a cult. Despite its origins in the Keynesian school, there is no ‘economics’ to any of it. Just ‘magical thinking’.

No money in the country but Labour happy to dish out - £15Bn on Illegal Immigrants - £13Bn on Foreign Aid - £35Bn on Chagos Islands giveaway -£30Bn per annum on NetZero - £41Bn per year on EU membership Fee?
If Burnham is raising Brexit to get votes, it makes sense, but I agree with everything @edballs says here, if it’s a serious enterprise it is likely to backfire badly. Hard to see any form of closer relationship which won’t involve enormous financial contributions or some form of freedom of movement

Ironic that the City itself doesn't want to realign with the EU, despite what Goldman Sachs is claiming about the economic benefits... 🤔
Some good pro-Brexit points here from the City, eg. how the financial services sector has gained from smarter regulation... 👍 #brexitbenefits

Here's a snapshot of grid frequency over the past week - the operational limits have been breached in both directions over the week Both yesterday and today saw swings between exceeding the upper and lower limits within relatively short periods - today was the most dramatic with a jump above 50.2 Hz, a couple of short drops below 49.8 Hz and then a larger jump above 50.2 Hz in the space of 90 minutes Friday saw frequency below the operational limit for 9 continuous minutes falling to a low of 49.75 Hz, resolved with Emergency Assistance on the interconnectors while today saw 2.5 minutes above 50.2 Hz rising to a high of 50.278 Hz Also shown are interconnector flows and SO-SO trades with the times when the intraday limits were breached highlighted - yesterday NESO traded against the flow for 14 consecutive settlement periods (7 hours) with several hours at 2700 MW (vs limit of 1500 MW) Finally we can see the de-rated margin and loss of load probability for the past week. The margin was healthy at all times and the LOLP was always zero So, in a well supplied market, NESO has struggled to keep the frequency inside the operational limit and has breached intraday interconnector trading limits multiple times, and extensively yesterday Not shown here are the EA on Friday and the two large EAs on Monday of 500 MW and 1200 MW. Also not shown are the balancing costs - yesterday was close to £50m which is the highest day ever. Today is £23.44m so far - the daily average is £2.3m. September was a record month and October is on track to be worse This is not evidence of a system operating securely. It's evidence of a system that's being held together with expensive last-minute actions. Yes, the lights have stayed on, but conditions have been really benign. I'm not sure we can be confident of the same outcome when demand is higher later in winter Adding insult to injury we hear that NESO has spent £££ on PR to gaslight us into thinking the grid was operated securely over the summer despite several margin warnings and lots of trading breaches. This week it has again tried to make us believe EMNs and EAs are just ordinary everyday tools and not exceptional actions. The cost and frequency data tell a different story And at a time when consumers are really struggling with high energy bills, NESO should be doing everything it can to avoid spending so much on balancing and interconnector trading - expenditure which gets added to bills via network costs @Miatsf @mgshanks @AndrewBowie_MP @ClaireCoutinho @HarrietCross_MP @drlukeevans @Ashley7Fox @ColinMoynihanUK @TiceRichard @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @cmackinlay @Iromg @AllisonPearson @MerrynSW @EdConwaySky @afneil @mattotele @Jonathan__Leake @CitySamuel @neso_energy @neso_energy @ofgem
