Incredible. We find that teams are overrated in the AP Poll from every conference at similar rates. Turns out the AP doesn’t overrate the SEC, it overrates everyone. SEC Haters seem to exhibit selective outrage.

There seems to be a strange perception going around that somehow the SEC or ESPN rigs the AP Poll for the SEC. This makes no sense because if you remove SEC-affiliated voters from the AP Poll, most SEC teams are ranked the same or BETTER than they are in the full poll. On top of this, the AP Poll is typically nearly identical to the Coaches Poll. Is the coaches poll rigged towards the SEC too? Seems like the implication the coaches or their interns are told “hey, make sure to put Texas A&M really high this week so LSU can have a ranked win in Death Valley.” It goes further. I’m told the SEC is overrated by everyone. The AP Poll isn’t the only poll, are all sports analysts (including ones not affiliated with ESPN) biased towards the SEC? Are data analysts that make power rankings biased towards the SEC? Oddsmakers in Vegas who make the betting odds? 10 of the Top 18 teams in odds to win the National Title are currently SEC teams. Does ESPN control high school recruits to make the majority of the best athletes come to SEC schools? Does ESPN control the NFL? Are NFL teams biased towards the SEC when they draft more SEC players than any other conference? Does ESPN control the outcome of the games? How else could the SEC be 10-2 in P4 games this year? It’s ridiculous. Being an SEC hater requires you to deny reality on a consistent basis.
