Witness Appeal. CAA has been made aware of a violent assault that is believed to have taken place in Queen Square, Bloomsbury, yesterday evening. We understand that a man was walking through the square when he spotted two men stencilling political messaging onto the floor. After confronting the men about a slogan which apparently referred to “genocidal Israel”, he was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault. During the incident, the men threw his phone into a nearby locked park, kicked him to the ground, and then proceeded to kick him in the head and ribs for around one minute, until a women from a nearby pub intervened and the suspects ran away. The victim believes he has sustained a cracked rib, but this is yet to be confirmed by a medical assessment. The men were described by the victim as young, of university age and white. One of the men was of slim build with sandy hair, and the other was described as being 6ft tall and of large build. If anyone has any information, please contact investigations@antisemitism.org or contact the Met Police quoting call reference number: 8535/06OCT26

This post is yet another sorry excuse for inaction. Organising a march without providing your name and address to police is a criminal offence. Will the police do anything? It seems not. Yet another law that might as well not exist. They don't like to ban marches but to move them, they say, like they did to multiple UKIP marches in Tower Hamlets and other areas. This situation is the same, they say, but actually this march is happening in prime central London and hasn’t been materially moved. Basically the extent of police action on this has been to ask the organisers (whomever they may be, because the police don’t seem to know) to reconsider marching on 7th October. And if they won't reconsider (they won’t), the police ask that they might march a slightly shortened route. It’s pathetic and an insult to Londoners’ intelligence.
🧵 We have imposed conditions on a student march that is expected to take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 7 October.

This is a seriously disingenuous post from the Met Police. As usual, @MetPoliceUK are complaining that their hands are tied and that they are powerless to act. That’s simply not true. Under section 11 of the Public Order Act 1986, the Met must be provided with the name and address of the march’s organiser. This has not happened, so the march is illegal. Furthermore, the Met seems to be saying that they feel that the march does not meet the conditions for calling for a ban under section 13 of the Act, so they will not even ask the Home Secretary to give her permission to ban it. She cannot instigate the banning process under the law, and can only make a decision in response to a request from the Met Commissioner. Why will he not at least make the case and seek her decision? Worse, the Met seems not to have imposed any conditions on the march at all. The Met can (without needing anyone’s permission) curtail the route, timing and numbers of people on any march that may cause “serious disruption to the life of the community”. That would be a use of existing powers under section 12 of the Act. The Met can ban face coverings. The Met can mobilise sufficient resources to arrest those who flout the law (and actually hand them over to the CPS to prosecute them rather than letting them all go at the end of the day). But so far, we are being told in private conversations that the Met has classed the march as “low risk” – though the Met denies this. If the Met does not classify an illegal march by extremists on the anniversary of the worst antisemitic atrocity since the Holocaust as causing “serious disruption to the life of the community”, then what is the point of having the laws at all? A few months ago the Met banned a UKIP march in Tower Hamlets without hesitation. But when it comes to the Palestine hate marches, they always plead impotence. It is two tier policing. Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley keeps saying that the law is inadequate and he needs more powers in order to do anything meaningful, but even now he is not using his existing powers. What is inadequate is his performance over the past three years, when antisemitic hate crime has risen to unprecedented levels – a clear failure of policing for which he has never been held to account. He must resign over this disgrace and the many travesties that have preceded it.
"Just ban it" That was a common response to us urging students not to hold a pro-Palestine protest on Oct 7. We can't ban protests & can only ask the Home Sec to do so if the risk of serious disorder is so high that it can’t be managed by conditions. That's not the case here.

Is @AyoubKhanMP serious here? Investigations take years when aircraft are destroyed and the passengers do not survive. In this case, the plane is intact and everyone on the flight who witnessed the incident is alive, all thanks to the heroic Israelis who were on board at the time. Of course, this doesn't fit the desired narrative, so out comes the conspiratorial nonsense. What more evidence is needed to support the theory that obsessing about the Jewish state impairs the ability to think critically?

Jewish students have had enough. There is a planned anti-Israel march taking place in London on 7th October, the third anniversary of Hamas’ horrific terrorist attacks, when they murdered some 1,200 people and took 251 people hostage. This is what we’re doing about it.

After organisers tell Jews to stay away from commemoration of fight against fascism, event is hijacked by Palestine activists A commemorative march took place in Leeds over the weekend, ostensibly paying homage to the 1936 Battle of Holbeck Moor, when 30,000 people gathered to confront Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists. But despite the Jewish role in that struggle against far-right antisemitism, Jews who wanted to join the event were urged to stay away. In their place, Palestine activists hijacked the occasion with flags and slogans to push their own agenda. So Jews were excluded from an event commemorating the fight against a historical movement that demonised Jews, and in their place the event was hijacked by a contemporary movement that demonises the Jewish state. Those who cannot face history are at risk of repeating it.

The @BoardofDeputies invited @ZackPolanski to address members of the Jewish community last night in a hustings for the Holborn and St Pancras by-election. During that event, Mr Polanski, who identifies as Jewish, victim-blamed Jews for antisemitism and declared the belief in Jewish self-determination (Zionism) to be racist. He said that by claiming it was antisemitic to accuse Israel of genocide in Gaza “we are making ourselves as Jewish people less safe”. It is outrageous and baseless to claim that antisemites would cease to target Jews if they adopted Mr Polanski’s views and condemned Israel at every opportunity. For centuries, Jews have been blamed for the hatred against them, which is itself a form of antisemitism. The standard expected by Mr Polanski of British Jews appears not to be merely distancing themselves from the world’s only Jewish state; he declared that he is an anti-Zionist and refused three times to say whether Israel, the world’s only Jewish state, even has a right to exist. Mr Polanski further stated that “If you’re defining Zionism as the displacement and genocide of the Palestinians, which is how in practice Zionism has become in truth, then that is racist.” According to our representative polling of the Jewish community, the overwhelming majority of British Jews (80%) identify as Zionist (only 6% do not). An even larger proportion – 89% – consider anti-Zionism to be a form of antisemitism (only 8% do not). It is not surprising that Mr Polanski was heckled by the Jewish audience when he put forward these views. However, it seems that for some in the Green Party, even Mr Polanski’s extreme statements are insufficient. It has recently been reported that senior Green Party members accused Mr Polanski of being a “genocide denier” and “struggling to overcome Zionist indoctrination”, presumably because he was raised Jewish. This was, according to reporting based on leaked WhatsApp messages, supposedly dampening enthusiasm for his candidacy, which, despite him being the leader of the Green Party, was apparently not assured. This pressure and criticism from Mr Polanski’s supposed political allies is a clear demonstration of the falsity of Mr Polanski’s suggestion that if only Jews berated Israel more, they would become more “safe”. To antisemites, Jews can never bow and scrape low enough. Any purity test that they pass will be replaced by a more extreme purity test. Even Mr Polanski’s extreme views will fall short of their standards. Candidates from the Labour, Conservative, Reform and Liberal Democrat parties also participated in the hustings last night. telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

Organising a march on the anniversary of the biggest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust is an outrageous provocation. Student groups have reportedly planned for a pro-Palestine march to take place on 7th October, the third anniversary of the brutal Hamas attacks on Israel, in which some 1,200 people were murdered, and 251 were kidnapped. It is impossible not to remember how Palestine activists demonstrated on the day of the attack back in 2023 before Israel had even responded. That’s because the motivation of these hate marches has always had less to do with solidarity with Gaza than with hatred for the world’s only Jewish state. The demonstration is being advertised on social media by a collective of student groups under the banner of the University of London federation. Students will apparently march between various London universities, including King’s College London and University College London. One student coalition advertising the event online reportedly described 7th October as “only the most recent form of genocide inflicted on the Palestinian people”, in a grotesque moral inversion of a targeted attack on Jews by a genocidal antisemitic terrorist organisation. Almost 60% of Jews would not feel comfortable disclosing their Jewish identity at university, according to our representative polling. This event will do nothing to alleviate those concerns. Exactly this time last year, then-Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer urged student protestors to reconsider their planned demonstrations on such a sensitive day, calling it “un-British”. We urge the latest Prime Minister to take the same stand. thetimes.com/world/middle-ea…

Guest on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Sunday Breakfast show spewed conspiracies about a “huge Jewish lobby” and went unchallenged. Racist remarks like these are now so normalised in the media that the presenters apparently don’t even think to call it out. Just the other day, a presenter on LBC mentioned it himself. We will be writing to @BBC, which has once again shown how little sensitivity it has to its Jewish listeners and viewers.

You knew it was coming. Ed Sheeran, an artist who wanted to keep his music untainted by politics, has woken up to the reality that nothing but complete submission to the cult of Palestinianism will suffice if he wants to avoid his shows being completely derailed. He has submitted himself to the purity test of a baying mob, outraged by the removal from his tour of a man who once went on stage dressed as a grossly antisemitic caricature of a Jewish person, who stood in a stadium in Germany and told the crowd that the only way of atoning for what happened to the Jewish people during the Holocaust was to condemn the world's only Jewish state, and who released a single in which he claimed that the October 7 atrocity was an act of “resistance.” Has Ed passed the test? Only time will tell. There is a good chance that more prostration and self-flagellation will be necessary before the mob is sated. #edsheeran #macklemore
