If you look up “a true gentleman”, for sure Professor Freddie Hamdy would be the first name you’d see. His brilliance is surpassed only by his humility, curiosity & kindness. Freddie, you are most deserving of every accolade you’ve earned in your career, and @ASTRO_org is just happy to be on your list of super fans. 🙌🏽
Presenting Freddie Hamdy w/ the 2026 @ASTRO_org Honorary Member award was a lifetime highlight for me. 👇🏼This was my last slide. A 🧵for context #ASTRO26

Dr Kyle was a giant of Medicine in a way that few of us can ever aspire to. His transformational impact on hematology was in no way fortuitous or accidental, but the direct result of his tireless work ethic and understated brilliance. He was also the consummate gentleman and an extraordinary mentor. I consider it one of the great blessings of my career that my first papers as an intern were with Dr Kyle. I still have the first drafts almost entirely covered by his red pen corrections, each one of which was precise, illuminating, and irrefutable. God Bless you Dr Kyle. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Robert A. Kyle, MD, founder and first president of the International Myeloma Society. Dr. Kyle’s research changed how the medical community understands multiple myeloma and the conditions that can precede it. He was also a teacher and mentor whose influence can be seen in generations of clinicians and scientists working in the field today. From helping convene the first International Myeloma Workshop in 1987 to founding IMS and serving as its first president, Dr. Kyle believed that progress depended on experts working together across borders, with patients always at the center. That commitment to science, collaboration and patient care remains at the heart of IMS. We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Kyle’s family, friends, colleagues and the many patients whose lives he touched. myelomasociety.org/rememberi…

Profound sorry that my mentor, friend, and colleague, the legend Bob Kyle passed away. His contributions to patients, medicine, myeloma, @IMFmyeloma @MayoClinic myeloma group, and the institution are monumental. A role model who will be remembered for his integrity and commitment to patients. I owe my career to him. He leaves behind a legacy of experts at Mayo Clinic as well as world over who were influenced greatly by him.
