Yeah, data centers make it sound like they are just passively storing cloud data.
Supercomputers used to be the term till like 2010. I remember when they used to say everyone will have a supercomputer by 2020.
And I still think data centers should be renamed. Supercomputers are a better term for these thinking machines, these giants of the desert we are building.

2010: Rich Chinese kids propping up third tier American universities.
2030: Rich White kids propping up fourth tier Chinese universities.

AI might work and win the future forever. But the Western world didn't earn or deserve this miracle. It was at best grace of God bestowed on an undeserving sinner.
Looking at how the politicians and economists are treating it... AI really is the Wunderwaffe of saving the U.S. economy isn't it?
If it doesn't work there is going to be a world of pain due to pre-existing trends and no clear way forward within the dominant ideology.
