"Data Centers" remains a terrible name for what are the giant thinking machines we are building. The association to the public that of privacy invasion and stealing data. It also implies also "data transmission" hence the insane brainworm of "Data Center Radiation!"
The data center debate has hit full force — and Northern Virginia real estate agents say it's driving some residents out of the area. My latest for @axios axios.com/local/washington-d…

We used to have a better name "Supercomputers." It is an awesome term, with great connotations. It isn't used because it sounds old to technical people, hence they stick to the 2010s cloud computing terminology.

Artificial Intelligence used to sound old timey that's why everything was called Machine Learning in the 2010s. After 2022 it is the other way around. Technical people can never think past the last wave of tech jargon. But you can change it quite easily!

Supercomputers or supercomputing centers immediate marginal improvement, and not incorrect as description.

It’s easier to connect economic status and civic prestige to “supercomputer”

I worry that in political debates, you cannot control your opponent's terminology. Notice how a pro-lifer describes their enemy as "pro-choice", but a pro-choicer describes themselves as "pro-bodily autonomy".

Very annoying how stupid the public debate on this is when so much is actually on the line. I have probably never felt the decline of complex thinking so intensely.

Go stick then in old coal mines or quarrys. People wouldn't care as those places are already graphically speaking a mess

Your not saying the public is wrong to associate those things with them, or are you?
