British Columbia, Canada just went to permanent DST here's why that's a bad idea for metabolic health:
Morning bright light appears to influence metabolism as a circadian signal. In a randomized crossover trial, 45 minutes of morning bright light reduced fat mass and appetite in overweight women, while naturally increasing day length was independently associated with greater weight reduction. Standard Time places sunrise earlier relative to our social clock, increasing the opportunity for morning light and reducing late-evening light, whereas DST shifts the natural light signal later where it is unavailable...
