Northern Irish. Born a unionist, but open minded liberal by conviction. Lived through the Troubles. Racism has no place in NI.

Belfast, city of my birth
Meanwhile, how many millions has the policing of a dredged up 28 year old parading dispute cost already?

The Blame Game is axed?! Humour has always been a key way for us to deal with the trauma and hurt here, and to lose this show is very unfortunate. We need to keep laughing at how ridiculous this place can be!

I fundamentally disagree with Carla Lockheart's position on most issues of politics. But the personal & misogynistic abuse she faces is utterly wrong and shameful on those who have simply lost the run of themselves.
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has said abuse she received yesterday outside Belfast High Court was “sinister” and described the impact on her young son who “hears” and “sees” the abuse. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/area/…

Is this the same Jamie who I've just heard condemn misogynistic abuse hurled against Carla Lockheart? The slurs she receives from some are indeed despicable. But how can Bryson say that use a slur against MON? But then, consistency isn't his strong suit.
O’Neill is a lawbreaking thug. Her balaclava has slipped.

It's not those gentlemen who are causing the trauma. It's the memory of tragic events like the Quinn boys, like the residents of GR being hemmed into their streets by a huge police & military operation that forced the OO down the road. Let's not forget what the 90s were like.
This is three of the men the mob are amassed again. This is who causes them such “fear”.

They have "won"? Why does it always have to be a zero sum game? Why must there be winners & lovers? Why must the stakes be raised to the point of confrontation? Perhaps you have a wider agenda at work, Jamie...???
The Portadown District have won. Whatever happens. They have secured the legal right, and so enraged at losing on the law, SF and nationalism has went into a rage fuelled tailspin, and their balaclava has slipped. The ‘New Ireland’ project is dead in the water. They surrendered it to oppose 35 mostly elderly and peaceful Orangemen walking peacefully along a traditional route for 14 minutes in silence.

That the DUP didn't realise this in advance is just another example of a long, long line of strategic errors being made. Brexit support, support of Borish Borish Johnson who then betrayed them, support for Trump who betrayed them. It's utterly bizarre.
"Unionists have made a massive strategic error...." "They have handed Sinn Fein an open political goal, they built the stadium, the sold the tickets, they cleared the defenders and have given Michelle O'Neill multiple penalty kicks." @SuzyJourno on #Drumcree

The whataboutery is strong with this one. The fact is simple: there can be sectarian views from both sides that offend the other. My dad was on an IRA hit list back in the day. I hate songs like this. But I can still support the GR residents to be free from sectarian marches.
This is very unhelpful I am sure, to the Garvaghy Road residents. Why is nobody telling these people to clear off? My Old Man's a Provo....

Jim Allister yells into the Drumcree void while Jamie & Carla blank him to scroll like bored teens in double maths. The hilarious irony of this lot demanding to be heard when they lack the basic manners to even listen to each other. Pure Kevin & Perry vibes.

This. "Here are my values. If you don't like them, I have some others."

Why should the fury of any Orangeman hold the whole of the country to ransom? We rejected that domination in 1998, and the true moderate reject it just as much in 2026.

This is a disgraceful comment about the men and women who put their lives on the line everyday to protect all in our society. It is a pathetic cheap shot.
I’m ashamed of our police force . Weak and pathetic

This has aged like rotten milk. Which Jamie do we believe - today's Jamie, or 2019 Jamie?
“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so."

Come on, Carla Lockheart, let's see you call this out, too.
The police have just warned the Orange Order that they are breaking the terms of the determination by having more than 35 people at Drumcree bbc.co.uk/news/live/ckz6z4z5…

Does that include these people, Jon?
We are all equal under the law and those taking part in an un-notified protest and obstructing the road should face justice no matter who they are. Sinn Fein MLA’s are likely to get a knock on the door & I suspect their actions are electioneering.

With Carla Lockheart be condemning this breach of the legal conditions laid out by the Parades Commission? The proverbial dogs on the streets know the answer to that one.

Condemns those who break the "rule of law" whilst saying the "consequences will be profound" if the PSNI don't force the march down? We see what you're doing, Carla. And we don't want to spiral back into the madness of the 90s.

This is how the intergenerational trauma lives on. And this is how the harden attitudes all round, and undo the progress of the last three decades. Utterly self defeating from political unionist, once again.
bryson & co accidentally put a spotlight on drumcree for a whole generation of unionists under 35...too young to rememer pre-98. insisting on stomping down nationalist areas when other routes are available is not the "win" they think it is and just as alienating as the bonfires.

So, let's get this right. It's okay to leave a country if you are experiencing push factors from it. As long as that country is the UK, of course. But it's not okay for people from other countries to experience push factors from there that make them move to the UK?
I love this country. I’ll never leave it. But I can’t blame the people who do. Today, I got a phone call that knocked me for six. One of my oldest pals, like a brother to me. someone I’ve known since we were two years old… he’s shutting down his bricklaying firm. A proper grafting business that employed good, honest lads. And he’s moving to Dubai with his wife and two young kids. I knew this was coming for a little while. He had his home broken into whilst him and his family was asleep back in December last year. And I know he has recently had his vans broken into. I know he is a proud Brit. And loves this country. And his is leaving Not because he wants to. But because he has to. It’s safer. Cleaner. Less tax. More opportunity for him and his family. And I get that. He tried convincing me to join him, he’s not the first one thay has to be fair, and I get it. I really do. This ain’t the first. Truth is, I’m not exaggerating when I say at least 10 of my mates have packed up and moved abroad with their families in the last 18 months. Good people. Hard workers. The kind of people who made Britain what it is. And every time I wave one of them off, it breaks my heart a little bit more. Because I love this country. I love the people, the culture, the graft, the humour, the community, the pubs, the football, the fish and chips, the freezing cold beach holidays in July. It’s home. It’s my home. But something’s gone wrong. The cost of living. The feeling of being let down. The constant battles just to get by. It’s wearing people down. They’ve had enough. I’ll stay and keep fighting for this country until my last breath. I believe in it. I believe in the people. I’ll shout about what’s right, and I’ll call out what’s wrong. And there is millions just like me, I know it. Because if we all leave, who’s left to fix it? But if you’ve left or you’re thinking about it…. I don’t blame you for one second. You’ve got to do what’s best for your family. And that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Just know this: you’re not alone. And if you ever come back, I’ll be here… pint in hand, door always open. Still carrying on. Let’s build a Britain people don’t feel they have to leave. That’s the dream. Bosh🇬🇧❤️

The irony that bonfires were lit to welcome a foreign army to the shores of Ulster seem lost on this folks responsible for this act of blatant racism. There is a considerable population here who would gladly have seen King Billy's boats stopped before they arrived here.
