@HMRCgovuk need to pay attention to @CryptoUKAssoc, to @Gart_io , and to everyone else who has highlighted the extreme risks to personal safety and security resulting directly from their CARF-related information gathering efforts.
This is not a drill.
The @BBCNews reports that a #reward of up to £10,000 is being offered for information after a young couple were attacked in their home and forced to transfer a substantial amount of #cryptocurrency.
The husband suffered significant injuries, and his pregnant wife was threatened with a knife. Police believe the attack may have been planned and targeted.
The case comes just one day after we shared @Gart_io's latest report on physical attacks involving #crypto. Across the 305 cases examined, at least 47.2% involved confirmed violence or torture. It is a difficult reminder of the human consequences behind these crimes.

Her comments are not random.
This is part of a well funded and carefully organized campaign to demonize open models and our civil liberties in DC.
Multiple Senate staffers have told me that outside groups are requesting meetings to provide “demonstrations” where open source models are used to attack simulated hospital websites and demand bitcoin as ransom.
These are cheap scare tactics funded by groups seeking to control open systems. In reality, cyber defenders rely on open models daily to find critical vulnerabilities before attackers get there first.
If these groups are successful, we will all be poorer, less free, and more vulnerable to adversaries with increasingly capable systems.
We're used to thinking of open-source models as an unadulterated good. But in the case of AI, they can actually pose additional dangers, as @ReidHoffman and I got into at #CGI2026. I appreciated this nuanced discussion.

While I deeply respect the cryptographic research that @nemothenoone and the @allocinitxyz team are pursuing to enable covenants on Bitcoin without a soft fork, it’s worth emphasizing that the cryptography underlying this approach is still highly experimental, and its security assumptions are far from established.
It will likely take years of research and scrutiny before there is enough confidence in these constructions for use in Bitcoin applications — and realistically, that confidence may never materialize.
I love the boldness of their vision and I’m impressed by the progress so far. At the same time, I think it’s important that the community has a clear understanding of where the research currently stands and how uncertain its practical viability remains from a cryptographic perspective.
