The world faces three existential threats: Runaway artificial intelligence. The climate crisis. And the intolerable deepening of inequalities. Next week, world leaders are coming together at #UNGA. My message to them: International cooperation is more important than ever.

As extreme heat is becoming more dangerous, we need more action to address it: 1. Protect people before heat becomes deadlier. 2. Make work safer. No one should have to risk their life to earn a living. 3. Build & retrofit for the heat. 4. Stop fuelling the crisis.

The climate fight will not be won in negotiating rooms, but through the actions we take in our communities. Local leaders have the responsibility to ensure the clean energy transition is fast, fair & delivers security, resilience & prosperity for all. They have my full support.

The clean energy future is already here. Renewables are the cheapest, fastest and most reliable source of new power. But the transition is still not fast & fair enough. This is our moment of choice, truth & opportunity to truly supercharge a global clean energy transition.

The climate crisis & the energy crisis may seem separate, but they share the same destructive origin: Fossil fuels. And they demand the same answer: A fast, fair transition to clean energy & a surge in adaptation, resilience & climate justice for those already facing climate harm.

For climate, this is the best of times & the worst of times. The worst – because climate impacts are intensifying & the energy crisis has exposed the deep risks of dependence on fossil fuels. The best – because the renewables revolution is well underway. We have the enormous opportunity – and responsibility - to turn this into a moment of resolve, fairness & shared progress. We can finally turn the page on fossil fuels & write a future powered by renewables & rooted in climate justice.

Methane drives around 1/3 of global warming and is 80 times more powerful than CO2. But aggressive cuts could deliver visible temperature benefits within a generation. That's why I’m launching a global call to cut methane emissions – in waste, agriculture & fossil fuels. This includes setting a new global standard for the oil & gas sector: near-zero methane emissions across the value chain.

In this age of war our addiction to fossil fuels is destabilizing the climate, global economy & global security. Now more than ever, we must accelerate a just transition to renewable energy. Renewables deliver climate security, energy security & national security.

For decades, dependence on fossil fuels meant dependence on volatility. In past oil shocks, countries had little choice but to absorb the pain.  Now they have an exit ramp: Homegrown renewable energy has never been cheaper, more accessible, or more scalable. The resources of the clean energy era cannot be blockaded or weaponized. There are no price spikes for sunlight & no embargoes on the wind.   The fastest path to energy security, economic & national security is clear: Speed up a just transition away from fossil fuels & toward renewable energy.
