Did You Know Tuesday: Spotlight on Halvor Bakke-Veiby It’s Did You Know Tuesday - that special time when we pause to shine a warm light on the builders, dreamers, and quiet heroes who make the Bitcoin Cash ecosystem feel like home. Today we’re celebrating Halvor Bakke-Veiby, known on X as @h4lvor - co-founder of @RiftenLabs and @CauldronSWAP, co-builder of Moria and WizardConnect, and one half of the original Shadow Wizards. His story is a rare one: from a young Norwegian rocket founder who aimed for the stars, then pointed that same fire at making money more free. Pull up a seat, this one has engines, courage, and a second horizon. The Kid From Trøgstad Who Aimed at Space Halvor was born in the late 90's and grew up in Norway with the kind of ambition that does not wait for permission. He started at NTNU, then left the conventional path and founded Solstorm Rocket Propulsion - a company built around rocket engines and a bold idea: do something useful with the junk we have left in orbit. In 2021 he later said they called something like a hundred investors. Norwegian press even placed the young founder on a list that also included Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. He named a company after a solar storm, registered Bakke-Veiby Rocket Propulsion Systems, and set off to build a future among the stars. Then He Chose a Different Destination What makes Halvor’s journey feel so BCH is not that the first chapter was perfect. It is that he kept the hunger and refocussed the target. The same passion. The same refusal to wait for the “right” institution. The same willingness to knock on a hundred doors. He pointed all of it at a different, but very serious, problem: money that can be stopped, frozen, gated, and talked down to by people in suits. He did not go looking for a quieter life. He went looking for a freer one. The Shadow Wizard at Riften Labs Today Halvor builds as a Shadow Wizard at Riften Labs, alongside Dagur Valberg Johannsson (@dagur) and the rest of the Shadow Wizard gang. Together they are a Nordic team making DeFi on Bitcoin Cash that's a pleasure to use, with the fastest DEX in crypto. Their flagship is Cauldron - the first DEX on Bitcoin Cash, built with CashTokens, using a clever micro-pools design that fits the UTXO model instead of fighting it. It is fast, playful, and serious at the same time. The SOCK token from the alpha still says everything about their spirit: a real pair of physical Cauldron socks, redeemable in the world, tradeable on-chain, enchantable into something a little more magical. Beside it sits Moria: lock BCH, borrow MUSD, a decentralised USD-pegged stablecoin that's transparent and censorship-resistant rather than another IOU from an issuer who can say no. They shipped WizardConnect so BCH apps can talk to wallets without leaning on flaky borrowed plumbing. They have shown up on @TheBCHPodcast, at @bchbliss, and in the unglamorous important work of docs, audits, and shipping. Halvor’s public posture is not corporate. It is closer to “your suit-wearing banker’s worst nightmare” - said with a grin, and then backed by contracts that actually run. From Cleaning Orbit to Opening the Money Rails Halvor once wanted to clear the sky of wreckage so the next generation could go further. Now he is trying to clear the financial sky of gatekeepers so ordinary people can go further. Same instinct. Same altitude. Today we’re shining the light on Dagur Valberg Johannsson (@dagur), Shadow Wizard & long-time Bitcoin Cash builder, founder of Riften Labs and one of the most consistently dedicated builders in the entire BCH ecosystem. From the earliest days of the block-size wars to pioneering DeFi primitives on Bitcoin Cash today, Dagur has shown what real, long-term commitment looks like. Grab a seat - this one has deep roots, clever spells, and even real socks. From the Scaling Wars to Core Infrastructure Dagur has been involved with Bitcoin Unlimited and the broader Bitcoin Cash community since the very beginning of the scaling debates. He contributed code across multiple node implementations - including Bitcoin XT, Bitcoin Unlimited, Bitcoin ABC, and Bitcoin Cash Node - and became a formal member of BU’s democratic structure. He worked closely with BU lead developer Andrew Stone on VotePeer (BUIP129), a decentralised, cryptographically secure voting system built for BU governance. He also authored multi-option vote contracts for Bitcoin Cash. He served as a core developer on Rostrum, the Electrum server implementation for Bitcoin Cash. In a beautiful example of ecosystem synergy, funding from Bitcoin Unlimited for his Rostrum work financially sustained him while he was building Cauldron - allowing him to keep contributing to critical infrastructure while simultaneously pushing the application layer forward. Riften Labs & Casting Real Spells on BCH Today, Dagur leads Riften Labs (Otherwise known as the Shadow Wizards, alongside Halvor Bakke-Veiby @h4lvor). Their mission: bring powerful, usable DeFi to Bitcoin Cash while staying true to its sound money roots and UTXO strengths.
