Tiny holes sit in a thin membrane over the smell centers, behind the bridge of the nose. Cerebrospinal fluid slips through those holes, enters lymphatics, and flows to lymph nodes in the neck. In old mice those holes shrank & the draining lymphatics withered. Drainage to the neck fell by about half. An intranasal treatment with a therapy that makes the growth factor VEGF-C didn’t open the holes. But it did regrow the atrophied lymphatics designed to drain those holes. And drainage flow returned to young-adult levels. It’s like a sink that drains too slowly. They didn’t enlarge the strainer. They fixed the pipe underneath & the remaining holes were still open enough once the pipe could carry the load. A separate study looked at 185 donated human brains: Alzheimer’s, ALS, two kinds of frontotemporal degeneration, and people without those diseases. Researchers counted packs of waste in the brain. All four disease groups had more waste than controls & it was found in the same drainage route area discovered in the first study. Two takeaways: 1. In mice, an aging drain can be improved by rebuilding the vessels downstream, even if the holes stay small. 2. In people with several different neurodegenerative diseases, extra waste is found along those same kinds of routes. Someday, but unfortunately not today, neurodegenerative diseases will be a thing of the past. This is another step forward to figuring this out.

In 2025, FDA inspectors arrived at the pharmaceutical company Hetero Labs in India. • Staff fled the warehouse with a loaded truck of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) when they announced the inspection. • Birds, lizards, and cats were found crawling among drums of US-bound medicine. The drums were damaged, lids were open, and labels were torn. • There was no pest-control program. • An undisclosed warehouse and an unregistered lab were being used for US-bound API. • GMP documents (which stands for Good Manufacturing Practice, the FDA rules for how drugs must be made, stored, tested, & documented so they’re safe) and raw data were found discarded in scrap bags. • Training records were signed by someone who did not even work there. And the FDA still lets this company do business in the United States.
