Anyone who has watched a recent Trump speech knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was not saying that he wants to allow Iran to take out American cities. There is no gray area. A large portion of every speech Trump now makes is about his decision to protect America by preventing Iran from having a nuclear weapon.
