Mullvad announced they're phasing out their public encrypted DNS 😥
If you relied on it for maintained malware/tracker/ad filtering, Control D is a solid swap-in. It's best known as a paid service, but the free tier requires no account and offers the exact same filtering.
On November 2nd 2026 our public Encrypted DNS servers will be shut down.
This does not impact customers of our VPN if DNS content blockers are used.

I just set it up myself, and it's IMO the best swap-in for anyone coming from Mullvad's filtering DNS.

Of course @Quad9DNS is great too and who I'd pick if you just need malware filtering, but Control D offers the similar ad/tracking/NSFW filters from Mullvad if that's the functionality you're trying to replace.
