Millions have been invested in CHI spinal services.
A dedicated Spinal Surgery Management Unit was established. Additional posts were funded, including administrative posts. ➡️ We were specifically told this Unit would monitor, manage and report on spinal waiting lists.
#NTPF
Now we are told those waiting lists are improving.
Yet a mother whose child was due a planned 6-month
#scoliosis review contacts OPD and is told he is on a waiting list, but they are “unable to advise on how long the wait will be.”
How is that acceptable?
@CarrollJennifer @SimonHarrisTD @MichealMartinTD
Who holds the chronological list?
#LucyNugent
Who knows which children are overdue review?
@npsoIRL
Who is responsible for ensuring a clinically planned 6-month review actually happens?
@HIQA
And why aren’t the administrative staff dealing directly with families given the information and authority to tell a parent where their child stands and approximately how long they will wait?
@AnneOConnorIRL
Because without that information, how can a parent make an informed decision about their child’s healthcare?
@CMOIreland
Parents are not clinicians. They are not waiting-list managers. They should not have to understand the internal workings of
@CHI_Ireland to secure care for their child.
@CcoHse
And let’s be very clear about claims that waiting lists are improving:
‼️ You cannot monitor progression in a child you are not seeing. ‼️
The system should be tracking the child.
The parent should not have to track the system.

Nothing has changed in CHI.
I spent today having to ensure a scoliosis PROACTIVE approach to my child's care.
hEDS child with minor curve due 6 month monitoring last month.
Right in the midst of a growth spurt. Sister went from 16⁰ to 52⁰ in 11 months.
No contact from CHI despite being told in March 2026 that a 6 month review was needed. Why wasn't it made then?
All appointments should be through OPD reception.
They had nothing and could not tell me how long he would wait on their 'waiting list'.
So I had to contact the Spinal nurses...whose job is NOT appointments but clinical support only.
Suddenly..within 3 hours....there was an appointment on the system for him for within a month.
Like come on..why does a parent have to go to these lengths?
