A lil career update, I recently joined Orbital Tx, as Associate Director- leading Process Development and Analytical Sciences team. Lots of challenges still around design/build/test, my grp will be looking to focus on the build part to enable new modalities around mRNA Tx.

Highly recommended for grad students who are early in their degree programs. It can be overwhelming to present talks and network- while you are new in the field. I found this conference to be extremely helpful to build my network with peers and ease my nerves while giving talks

SELEX for functional nucleic acids is another (one my favorite). First wave of synthetic ribozymes, deoxyribozymes, and aptamers out from Gold, Joyce, Szostak labs around similar time.
Many big scientific discoveries are races.
Consider splicing - co-discovered by Sharp & Roberts, with many others close behind. Erase one and the discovery still happens within months.
What breaks this pattern? “If not for X, it would have been decades before Y was discovered.”

This is a great thread on academia ➡️ industry transition. Roles can be very different— some discovery driven ones are close to academic research. Others not so much, important to know beforehand.
The corporate jargons are definitely real. I keep “circling back” to them.
