By taxing the richest 0.3% of Canadians, just some 133,000 people, Canada could raise over $1 billion per year, the Parliamentary Budget Officer confirmed today. Those revenues could go a long way towards fixing our broken healthcare system, building affordable housing, or creating a national public grocery network that would drive down the cost of groceries. No selling of our airports required. Just the ultra rich paying their fair share.
A new PBO report confirms adding new tax brackets for the wealthiest 0.3% would raise over $1 billion a year. Instead of selling off Canada's strategic assets, the Liberals must ensure those at the very top do their fair share to protect and build Canada. pbo-dpb.ca/en/publications/E…

I’d be more sympathetic to the “tax the rich” people if I didn’t know what would happen to the money. NDP supports believe it would go to paying down the debat but it wouldn’t. It would be used to bribe voters with more “free” services. The man the NDP would be back demanding some new tax. The ultimate end state of this approach is communism. The government would have all the money.

Also, as of 2019, almost 1/3rd of ALL government spending (federal + provincial + municipal combined) was on healthcare. Healthcare spending has increased substantially since then. The system is still in tatters and held together by duct tape. How much more money do they need?

Where exactly is the money going? At the end of the day, no money is spent on "healthcare": it all goes to individuals, governments, or corporations.

On a per capita basis, Canadian healthcare system has 10 times as many administrators as Germany’s. German healthcare system consistently ranks in the top 3 in the OECD. Canadian healthcare system consistently ranks in the bottom 5.
