❗️In the U.S. yesterday, mass protests against Trump took place under the slogan “No Kings,” according to the Associated Press. The actions covered cities across the country, including New York, Washington, and Atlanta. Protesters spoke out against Trump’s policies, accusing him of authoritarianism

Ah yes: the "authoritarian" who fired 300K+ govt workers, reduced govt power, made it easier to own weapons. Increased protection for women and freedom of speech. Protesters: demanding censorship, govt control of economy.

Spare me the pearl-clutching — especially from Republican Members of Congress and online MAGA grifters who have cheered President Trump's weaponization of the government against those he doesn’t like, as recently as last week. This is a subject I know something about: Less than a year ago, Trump directed the DOJ and FBI to investigate me, and then tried to criminally indict me for a 90 second video, exercising basic free speech. The same free speech you’re exercising now, lying about what I said in this clip. If not for an anonymous group of grand jury members standing up for America's laws, I’d be criminally indicted for sedition. President Trump has turned the government against people, with raucous support from you and virtually all D.C. Republicans. So spare us the manufactured outrage. America must be a place where the rule of law still matters. Those laws should apply to everyone equally. If you have aided in the corrupt use of U.S. taxpayer dollars to benefit the President or his family, or you have violated the law in order to carry out guidance from the President, you should be held accountable. And given how rampant that corruption appears to the average American, people looking to work for his Administration should realize that while the Supreme Court has granted the President immunity, it has not done the same for those who do illegal things at his behest.
It is absolutely disgraceful to threaten young Americans for participating in politics and serving their country.

So Trump finally starts copying the Dems, and you're upset instead of celebrating?

EU: Folks tell me it is about 'Peace in Europe' Seems to me that NATO (founded 1947) has done a great job of that. Far better than EU (1992) And preceded it by 45 years.

But it has interfered beyond its charter 🤷‍♂️

So? What's your point? If you're looking for perfection in the real world, I'd suggest you plan for a great deal of disappointment.

Getting sick of my timeline cluttered up with MAGA yank wankers slagging off Zelensky and Ukraine. How about Russia invading the US and taking Alaska? Would you accept that happening? Slava Ukraine!🇺🇦

Comparing to Alaska: The only country that I'm aware of that claims Ukraine is its province is Russia. EU says it is independent. So your argument actually supports Putin's position. It's an interesting position to take, when you also post "Slava Ukraine".

Question of the day ?? Conservatives want the FULL text of the trade deal that Carney rejected made public - He said that he would brief opposition leaders Monday ( after the referendum?) Should he release it ? 1) yes -we deserve to know 2) no -keep it secret

He can best make his case that his choice was the right one, by posting the full text. It's curious that he's so shy about proving himself right.

European Union: I am really struggling to see how petty rules about the power of vacuum cleaners and the bend in bananas contribute to the 'Peace in Europe' that Remainers attribute to the EU (founded 1993). Can anyone explain how having more powerful hoovers would lead to war? Beats me!

NATO has ensured peace in Europe You have made a false equivalence with sensible rules made by the EU and peace In Europe But do you think the rules that you mentioned are sensible or not Seems a bit odd to be scared of a vacuum

"sensible" EU rules were strong enough to cause Brexit. & other countries looking at leaving. Massive social unrest in all the countries that implemented Schengen. Does burning out Jews count as "improving peace in Europe"?

Replying to @latimeralder
Imagine being upset having rules on food quality Imagine being upset about efficiency Do you know that toilet cisterns have shrunk and the flow redesigned for better efficiency to not waste water, are you also scared of that?
4

What you're citing has no cost/benefit analysis: the money going into smaller toilet cisterns is money not being spent on medical, better roads, etc. Will there be increased problems w/ sewage flow w/ less water? What is value of having less water being used in toilets?

Every bureaucracy has to justify it's existence. Imagine what would happen if a bureaucracy announced that it's job was done, and the bureaucracy could dissolve & everyone be laid off? The career-safe move is to do scope-creep & increase inefficiency so you can get more $.

I don’t think you are in any position to determine what I think based on me pointing out flaws in NATO policies and actions / inactions. Why the necessity to pick sides ?

My only knowledge of you is based on your posts. You could just as easily blame the Canadian Postal system for not intervening in Bosnia or Ukraine. It's not in their charter, just like it's not in NATO's. that's a simple legal interpretation of written documents.
3
Bosnia wasn’t part of NATO either, it seems like policing actions are only convenient when it suits the political agenda and not to do with saving people 🤷‍♂️

People care more about problems close to home, than ones far away. Plus, you're being unrealistic in expecting NATO to side with Russia against Ukraine. You might be a fan of Putin, but not everybody in Europe is.

Our Remain friends are starting to see the light On trade the EU is just a gang. Ready to be nasty to other gangs. Let's not pretend it was anything else
We were one of the twins, thus triplets or whatever the right word is for the number of members at any particular time. We were in a gang. One of the biggest gangs in the world. The gang was democratic. The gang looked after its own. We helped write the rules on non gang members

Q: how well would UK do with the additional burdens of EU regulations as well as Schengen? France & Germany are both going downhill on econ front as well as internal cohesion. Has anyone walked through economic costs for rejoining EU? Why not just get rid of all the EU regs?

To bomb or not to bomb that is the dilemma- they bombed the shit out it 🤷‍♂️

So you're in favor of the Rwandan genocide too, then. That's your position, but it's not everybody's.

Why then didn’t NATO intervene in the Donbass when Ukraine was shelling its own citizens since 2014 ? 🤷‍♂️

Your position is the same as Putin's. Not everyone agrees with you or him on what's going on in Ukraine. Ukraine isn't part of NATO, and a Russian invasion of Ukraine doesn't trigger NATO involvement.

Want to rejoin EU? Here are the areas where we must sacrifice our democratic liberties to them. Where EU law is supreme over any national law The 'acquis communitaire'. Happy that all these things would now be outside our Parliamentary control? I'm not

Im fine with all of this It means that we move forwards sensibly Give the accounts on X a chance to get into power we would have farage/lowe and apartheid on its way Give me the EU anyday

"Forwards" in the Nazi Germany, or Stalinist Russia sense of the word? Or in the "1984" sense of the EU rule-by-bureaucracy?

NATO is a military alliance to stop Warsaw Pact, not meant to stop civil wars. Is your position that it shouldn't have done anything in Balkans, and just let the ethnic cleansing happen. Just like Rwanda? Or something else?

US Military Branches ranked by proportion of serial killers. 1. Army: highest number (52% of U.S. male serial killers with military service) 2. Navy: 22% 3. Marine Corps: 18% 4. Air Force: 8% 5. Coast Guard: 0.3% 6. Space Force: 0 (Based on the Radford University/FGCU Serial Killer Database analysis of U.S. serial killers with known military service)

Of course, this is just the ones that they *caught*. So one has to wonder if the USCG just has all the smart serial killers...

Many Remainers argue that the politics don't matter. Just economics. That they'd be happy to sacrifice democracy for a hypothetical 0.5% on growth in a decade. Maybe they will sell their vote that cheaply. But I won't.
The EU question is very simple Do you want to be ruled by people you can kick out? Or by people you can't? There is no more to it than that And Tony Benn described it well.

Given that (1) ppl are now talking about France entering a debt-trap that will cause the EU to disintegrate (2) Germany has record high bankruptcies & auto industry announced it'll be completely wiped out by Chinese EV, are ppl really sure that EU economy will do better than UK?
