The president himself said he’s open to Chinese companies coming in, setting up shop, making Chinese cars here. And I just wanna say, as Michigan’s senator, that is the beginning of the end of the American auto industry.
We just don’t want the president to make any dumb deals. He’s rolling out the red carpet for Chinese companies as he punches others in the teeth.

The President should not invite Chinese automakers to set up shop in the United States. This is quite literally an attempt by Chinese companies to get their foot in the door of the American market.
This is a national security and an economic security issue. We should not give an inch.

Read the fascinating story of the Celtic Cross at Worcester City Hall, unveiled 49 years ago #OTD Sept 18, 1977. The 15 foot sculpture celebrated the Irish presence in #Worcester + Central Massachusetts dating back to 1826.
At the ceremony, Professor Vincent Powers called these early Irish immigrants "ethnic pioneers who have altered + shaped our society. This is a most human saga - indeed, one to be memorialized."

As always, watch what the President does, not what he says. If the President of BYD comes with the Chinese President to the White House next week, we can only assume there are deals afoot to allow Chinese cars to be imported, or Chinese companies are being invited to set up shop in the U.S. President Trump said that he would welcome Chinese car companies as recently as last week.
That would be a terrible outcome for Michigan and the 1.2 million jobs in our state associated with the auto industry. The Chinese have been working for years to get that first foothold into the U.S. market.
Chinese car companies are propped up by the Chinese government and once they they get the green-light to enter the U.S., they will undercut our manufacturers and suppliers, wreak havoc on our industry, and take our jobs. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

A wonderfully clear piece about Ukraine from the wonderful Anne Applebaum
Putin didn't invade Ukraine because of NATO. He invaded because Ukrainians were proving democracy works.
Historian and Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Applebaum puts it plainly: Putin looked at Ukraine's democratic movement and thought, "If they can do it in Ukraine, then people could do it in Russia. So I need to crush this."
That's the real threat Ukraine posed. Not missiles. Not borders. A working democracy next door.
Applebaum frames the war as a fault line between the democratic and autocratic worlds. Russia isn't just trying to take territory. It's trying to erase Ukraine as a nation, reduce it to a colony, and send a message to every country that the post-1945 rules of Europe no longer apply.
Those rules were simple: no invasions, no wars, borders don't change by force. Russia understood exactly what it was breaking when it crossed into Ukraine.
