Half the state is subsidized to promote ethanol, yet every community loses their mind over a new 100 acre solar project....

This isn't the same comparison is it since one is for fuel and the other for electricity

no they compare energy production. liquid fuel of coure has some advantages but at this lopsided rate of production its not really sensible in the faintest

Ethanol is a post hoc rationalization for the commitment to growing field corn

American politics in a nutshell. Wonder why Iowa and Illinois are all cornfields? It's this nutty idea that ethanol is so great that it's worth massive subsidies.

It has never been sensible. Ethanol as fuel should always have been left to bootleggers. Biodiesel should only be recycling oil that cannot be used for food, not made from virgin oil.

Mandating it in gasoline is crazy, but it鈥檚 more about cheap, high-nutrient animal feed.a

I want to join a legally sanctioned platoon of flamethrower operators tasked with burning every acre of ethanol-destined corn to ash.

Corn is not grown for ethanol production because it makes environmental or economic sense. It's grown because the government subsidizes and mandates ethanol addition. And government does that to make farmers vote for them.

I know this will not make up the difference but this does leave out the fact that we do feed the DDGs

Can we pay them not to grow corn?

Why did you put up a graph showing an electric source comparing a fuel source? Literally no one uses ethanol for electricity.

Only politically does it makes sense to subsidize corn EtOH because there are powerful industries providing infrastructure for growing the corn, harvesting it, processing it and selling the EtOH. So many wheels to grease, so many lobbyists to send $$ to pols.
