The art of short film allowed @Travon to express his raw emotions. By telling a story about the battles faced by the Black community, the hope was to move & educate people. It's been a dream to have this film reach people all around the world & we hope it continues to do so.

It was important to depict @zariazariazaria's character, Perri, as very strong and unapologetic. With many stories having the narrative that men hold the power in relationships and dating, Zaria helmed a strong feminine energy and her poise represented many of the women today.

@ScottFeinberg describes how our film helped him to better imagine more than anything else how often Black men specifically struggle to allow themselves to be vulnerable. By being labeled with stereotypes and biases, @Travon wanted to show the constant battle to overcome.

Writing Officer Merk was a vital part of the film & its message. Travon knew Andrew Howard would have the skill set to embody this character. Each day, Andrew came to set with much dedication to step into his own role & also be a leader for his co-stars.

@Travon felt a huge responsibility to create this film after feeling moved to action in the wake of the tragic death of George Floyd. He also felt a duty to keep his cast & crew safe throughout filming. By facing adversity, the crew felt a strong unity to create the film.

@Travon created Carter to embody a person similar to himself, a lovable and slightly nerdy Black man. With the typically tougher exterior of @joeyBADASS, Travon knew the juxtaposition of Joey's likeness & the character he was trying to create would read even stronger in the film.

Going through the emotional cycle of sadness, anger & hope is one burdensome part of the Black experience. @Travon used the Groundhog day story structure in #TwoDistantStrangers to highlight just how visceral it is to navigate continuous racial trauma as a Black American.

As an independent film, our team had to persevere to find ways to turn "no" into "yes" & get our production off the ground. Through grassroots efforts, our film was able to move into existence, & what was next on the list for our team was to find a way for the world to see it.

One year ago today, all of our lives drastically changed when @WHO officially declared a pandemic. Our team chose to come together safely & overcome this obstacle by allowing the inspiration for this story to drive us - a product of hard work and dedication to Black storytelling.

@martinroe dives into the "constant set of miracles" our team encountered. Filming during a pandemic, with short time constraints, & creating the quality & emotion felt while watching this film was no easy task. But, with magic moments, we created this incredible piece of work.

The feat of telling this story in a short period of time has been rewarding. Writing & completing the film in a total of 10 days was an extremely independent effort to put this together. Our goal was to creatively portray this message to better understand the Black experience.

In filmmaking, every detail matters, including music. The songs we selected to include in #TwoDistantStrangers helped shape the emotional response we wanted to create. For this reason, the original "The Way It Is" by @brucehornsby was specifically paired with the ending scene

In Summer 2020, our filmmakers teamed up to create #TwoDistantStrangers in only five days in the middle of the pandemic. Our team worked furiously in a short period of time, so we wanted to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this film happen.
