RGB is the one here. Utexo is rolling out native USDT on Bitcoin via the RGB protocol (client-side validation, anchored to BTC UTXOs) with Lightning for instant private transfers and USDT-denominated fees.
Taproot Assets is a separate Lightning Labs protocol that also supports USDT-style assets, but this "coming home" push with Paolo and Utexo is specifically RGB. Built on Bitcoin (BOB) is unrelated.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said USDT on Bitcoin is on the way after quoting Utexo co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk.
Ihnatiuk said he spent an evening in Washington with Morgan Stanley talking USDT on Bitcoin, and that Utexo is working with the bank on that rollout in Europe and globally.
Most USDT sits off Bitcoin today.
Dollars settling on bitcoin:native would give the chain more payment flow and more reason to use it as rails.

A private contract can settle on Bitcoin without going on-chain, looking like an ordinary transaction outside.
The anchor makes this possible, a transaction ID and cryptographic proof tying the commitment to Bitcoin.
