Centrist. Truth. Knowledge.

Pretoria, South Africa
South Africa is in a struggle to salvage the criminal justice system. Whistleblowers are the lifeblood of efforts to stamp out corruption. The Madlanga Commission is but a small step towards creating a system which is honest, reliable and consistent.

And how much do we each owe? How is it calculated? And who do we pay it to? And how much do tribes owe one another for the atrocities committed against one another? How much gets repaid to each Voortrekker family whose ancestors had their heads on pikes? We have repaid Shaka Zulu with an airport in his honour and whitewashed his history of slaughtering other tribes, taking their land, cattle and people. What reparations must be paid for driving those tribes out of the land now known as Zululand? How far back do we go to determine every penny each family is entitled to for something done to their ancestors generations ago? Or does the story only matter when it is white people paying black people for crimes committed by other white people? What of the white people who only choose to come to South Africa now? Are they also required to pay tribute to the black elite for the privilege of merely living? Will we look back in 50 years and have white people receiving compensation for being systemically disenfranchised by the current system? Many white kids still live in the lap of luxury. Many more, however, after being born after Apartheid to middle-class families, struggle to get employment despite their privilege because they do not meet the BEE requirements. They will forever now be poorer than their parents. Despite systemically disempowering them, nothing has been done to improve the lives of average black South Africans at all. A tiny minority has enriched itself from the exploitation of the majority. Black people still remain poor and uneducated. The only difference is that the system is pulling more white kids into poverty yearly and leaving the black kids in that poverty. That is not redress, that is punishment. If the “redress” merely has the practical outcome that white kids get poor and black kids stay poor, it has no use. So, let us all know exactly what it is we each owe, let us see how fair the redress truly is.

This is what intransparent government looks like. @ME_Beaumont @HermanMashaba This party does not like criticism that they are intellectually incapable of addressing. Imagine a politician, faced with a question as to their conduct, blocks you. Thank you for the badge of honour 👀😂 So soft and unable to handle real accountability. Weak leadership.

When dishonest individuals attempt to make numbers look better than they are, they get confronted with the facts. ActionSA has created less than 10% of the jobs that Cape Town has over the last 5 years.

Sophie Cunningham appears to simply be a genuine person who cares about protecting women’s sports. She came out and said she loves everyone but that she cares about the protection of women and girls. There is no better way to show people, particularly politicians, how to go about dealing with issues that have become controversial. You can hold no ill will towards people while still acknowledging that certain people require and deserve protections fundamental to their identities. I don’t watch the WNBA or even basketball in general, but props to an athlete coming out with a measured response and attitude that aligns with her moral compass. Those who come out and attack her for simply holding the views she does and seek to manufacture ulterior motives on her behalf are nothing more than grifters with no credibility. The world needs more people who actually believe what they say and express it without hate. @sophaller #wnba

Chief Perumal is also ill? Shoo, we need the WHO to be dispatched to assess this outbreak, it is spreading. It seems to be spreading by email from the Madlanga Commission email address. #MadlangaCommision

Are we surprised that @ME_Beaumont and @HermanMashaba don’t want their party’s financials known? They are all for accountability and transparency as long as it is not them who have to do it!
We publish all our finances. Why won’t you? AmaBhungane is seeking a much higher level of political funding transparency by gaining access to the full financial reports of all parties in Parliament. ActionSA and the EFF don’t like it. Read about the two parties’ attempt to quash the exposure of their finances here: f.mtr.cool/zzjvypxmaw

Unfortunately @stengel appears to have, knowingly or otherwise, done exactly what Nelson Mandela warned against. I think Nelson Mandela would be shocked by what has become of his party and what it has done to South Africa. That being said, we must be very careful not to dismiss claims without proper examination simply because of who is making the claims. Whether or not one agrees with genocide claims, it is not necessarily hypocrisy just because of who it might be directed by or against. It is very dangerous to spread the idea that the history of a people excludes them from ever reporting mistreatment. One need only look to the situation in the Middle East to understand that a people that might have been persecuted in the past might currently be committing heinous acts. The opposite must necessarily be true. Persecutors of the past might be persecuted in future. By the logic of @stengel, Germans could never complain in future if they feel they are being mistreated because their country committed heinous acts in the past. By that same logic, most peoples are excluded from protections or support because their ancestors may have done awful things in the past. South Africa is a unique case because the minority oppressed the majority in the past. The present case is the descendants of the minority, who are now minorities, are completely subject to the power of the majority. That is a precarious position to be in and it is precisely what Nelson Mandela warned against. All people are deserving of protection and those that feel persecuted by current policy should still be heard as human beings rather than dismissed out of hand because of the sins of their ancestors. Nelson Mandela expressly desired a country in which the descendants of those who created Apartheid would not be disadvantaged and persecuted for the wrongs of their ancestors. Nelson Mandela knew that a key aspect of dismantling Apartheid required the full buy-in of the Afrikaans and English populations of South Africa and that getting that necessarily required that the future generations would not be judged and punished for the past. He also truly believed that that was a righteous goal. He was right, but he would not be happy with the current situation in respect of that goal. This is a prime example of punishing a current generation for the past. Any claims that are made are labelled hypocrisy simply because those alleged to be suffering happen to be descendants of people who previously operated the Apartheid State. Whether or not the claim of “genocide” is accepted should not be based on the alleged victims or perpetrators. It should be based on facts. Stengel’s comment that it is hypocrisy indicates that he believes Afrikaans people can never complain because of the past. That would exclude every nation and every people from complaining. The world needs more acceptance of truth and accountability, not more evading of accountability and not more virtue signalling.
At the Mandela Global Leadership forum last night, Richard Stengel - a former Time Magazine managing editor & former U.S. Under-Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy (who collaborated on Long Walk to Freedom) was asked about current relations between the United States and South Africa and what Madiba would do in this moment of tension... framed by moderator Redi Tlhabi as "a small nation feeling constantly whipped and beaten by a powerful nation led by the President" (of the USA). This was Stengel's response: #sabcnews

Isn’t it ironic that a senior investigator for an organisation that has a leader accused of sharing docket information with a suspect before official disclosure is seeking to prevent public disclosure of docket information already officially disclosed. Classic tale from the Madlanga Commission.

Cry, the beloved country. When people actively take to social media and engage in racist commentary and engage in wide spread promotion of racism and division ostensibly on behalf of a political party. @Olivia_LaGrange consistently engages in similarly divisive behaviour, but has now engaged in a direct “call to action” in which she demands that black people never vote for white people because of a perception that all white people are racist. We can never hope to eradicate racism if we allow this sort of view to be propagated while claiming to be inclusive. @Action4SA @AtholT @HermanMashaba @ME_Beaumont ActionSA should properly condemn these mutterings, but they likely will not. As a party that has promoted xenophobia, it is unlikely that they draw the line at openly racist content like this. @SAHRCommission This sort of racism has become normalised because of characters like this who do not swiftly act to shut it down and confirm that it will not be tolerated. 18 thousand people have seen it so far. It has been reposted 227 times to yet more people. Many have liked it. This is the power of hatred spreading on a platform like this. In our country, free speech has its limitations and one of them is hate speech. This is nothing short of hate speech and it should be condemned if our country is serious about promoting unity. I pity the people who hold such racist views because they come from a place of immense ignorance but we must equally condemn such commentary and make it clear that it is a vile belief to hold that all members of a single group are racist. What a sad day for our rainbow nation and democracy. @PresidencyZA @CyrilRamaphosa @CilliersB @SollyMsimanga @IanCameron23

Corruption Watch executive director Lebogang Ramafoko says the real challenge facing the Madlanga Commission is whether the state has the resources, skills and political will to ensure that those implicated are ultimately prosecuted and jailed. Watch: tinyurl.com/2nfddh22 #Newzroom405

I enjoy the irony of Feroz Khan's legal team indicating to the media that Khan was keen to attend the Madlanga Commission to clear his name, only to turn up today to claim that he has not had time to review the evidence submitted by the evidence leaders. One wonders how he could have been excited to clear his name without having had the time to review the evidence. #Madlanga

After years of being banned from entering a stadium in my own country, for no crime other than being a woman, this is how I walked in. This was the World Cup FIFA 2026 between England and Panama but for me, it was beyond that. You have to be a woman from Iran or Afghanistan to truly understand this emotion. For whom this simple act, walking into a stadium, moving with joy, showing my hair, sitting next to men, was not just forbidden. I was beaten for it. Imprisoned for it. Humiliated for it. Exiled for it. And even in exile, I became a target for multiple assassination plots. And now people lecture me: "Don't politicize football." I have a question: which part of my body hasn't already been politicized by the Islamic Republic? My hair? My voice? My seat in a stadium? They turned our entire existence into a political battlefield. Every inch of a woman was a crime scene under their law. And now I'm supposed to just sit back, eat a hot dog, and enjoy the game? I did enjoy the game. England won. But walking through those gates, that was the real victory.

A challenge to the High Court will result in this order being overturned. This is abuse of the process of the magistrates court in order to institute pre-publication censorships. This is strategic litigation against public participation (SLAPP) at its finest. Protection orders should not be abused to prevent journalism. Proper challenges to journalists and their limitations must be brought in the High Court.

The lawlessness and attacks on police officers must be met with swift and strong justice. If not, we cannot hope to combat corruption and criminal activities.
Such sad news. Sgt Mohlomla Tusani, 46, a SAPS member attached to Nyanga Visible Policing, was murdered in Lingelethu-West, Khayelitsha, on 21 June 2026. He had reportedly dropped his wife at church and was waiting at a family home in Town Two when two armed men entered the house and shot him multiple times. Nothing was taken from him or from the house. No arrest has yet been made. According to the case information, five cartridges and one projectile were recovered, and two witness statements were taken. The early indication is that this may have been a targeted killing. Sgt Tusani’s family deserves answers, and SAPS members deserve to know that when one of their own is murdered, every possible lead is followed properly and quickly. IC
