Regardless of whether or not the Covid vaccines increased miscarriage rates (which I’m not going to address here because it’s not the point), the fact that people like Fauci, Walensky, and Murthy were acknowledging it was a possibility while they were telling the public there was no such risk, working to strangle public debate on the subject, and pushing the vaccines on pregnant women (many of whom were subject to employer mandates) is a problem. Public health officials are not doing their jobs when they treat the public like children who are incapable of understanding nuance, making personal health decisions, and intentionally try to suppress public debate by threatening social media companies (as Fauci and Murthy did— publicly and privately). Messaging (from their perspective) such as: “we think the risks to pregnant women are outweighed by the benefits but of course this early on we cannot be sure. Here’s the data we have today … so every woman will have to make an individual decision in consultation with her doctor” would have been appropriate. “This very new vaccine is perfectly safe for pregnant women and if you have any doubts you are a scientifically illiterate fool who deserves to lose her job and die and actually if you don’t get it we’re not going to treat you if you have a health problem” is not, and messaging from these people and much of the public health establishment took that latter form. And that approach is largely responsible for depleted trust in public health which is causing a host of other problems— as anyone who understands human nature predicted back in 2021, including me
