Well, I did a little OSINT, and it turns out he is the Conference Co-Director of Effective Altruism Global since 2015.
Isn't it interesting that every major "AI" hack has been made by people directly connected to Effective Altruism?

I’d personally rather defy any ban on AI & risk spending 20 years in prison than accept a future without superintelligence. Since stopping its development would amount to a death sentence for most of us anyway, with no hope of curing aging. We must resist tyrants like Sanders.

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon became a media superstar after going public with his AI fears. He insisted that he wasn’t working with any third party organizations. Familiar sources told us a different story: DEY., a PR firm representing many of the most prominent AI safetyists, was booking his interviews.
One source, who had direct knowledge, even said DEY. preemptively booked Nate Soares, a prominent AI safety figure, for interviews that directly overlapped with Jacob going public.
Jacob working with DEY. is notable for two reasons: first, as mentioned, he previously said he wasn’t working with third parties. Second, we are in the middle of a national conversation about the future of AI that is actively determining how we regulate the most powerful technology in the world, largely thanks to the panic stirred up by Jacob — and it’s in the public’s interest to know who, exactly, is behind it.

fun fact...
looong before I ever had a YouTube channel, I recall thinking
"if I ever have a YouTube channel, I want to be like this guy"
why?
1) it was obvious he does his homework. every video there's something new I learn that's actually useful
2) he doesn't play status games, just does his thing. now the media covers *him*
3) he doesn't talk about what he thinks you might find interesting, he talks about what he finds interesting. this combined with point #1 is a big deal. it's self guided discovery, not trend chasing
not sure why I decided to post this now but I think it's one of the most important lessons I've ever learned:

it's a LOT weirder than it appears both for AI and for bio...
Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA—a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.
We don’t yet understand what this system does, but only a handful of known systems share its features, and all of them are able to cut, copy, and paste DNA. Historically, the discovery of such programmable systems has helped revolutionize medicine. CRISPR, for instance, is now the foundation of genetic medicines. But it will take much more work to learn what this system does, and whether it can be put to similar use.

this is, on one hand, is amazing and probably takes us one step closer to immortality
it might be an alternative to CRISPR, yet another programable "bio computer" than can be made to edit our genes
on the other hand, if I'm understanding this correctly, the thing it found is part of a "weapon system" that virus use to kill other viruses trying to invade it's host
specifically it recreates a strand of the enemy DNA (kind of like a wanted poster) and then the thing blows up when it encounters that DNA
(by blowing up I mean it's a toxic protein that's held inert until it meets the "bad guy" DNA)
so Claude found the thing that makes the "wanted posters" of stuff that needs to be killed
so... mixed feelings

the crazy thing about this Claude discovery is that it's likely a weapon that's used by viruses to kill other viruses that try to invade it's host...
like it uses these "trip wires" that SPECIFICALLY target the exact DNA of the enemy virus and then release the toxin protein...
it's a "smart weapon" in the sense that it "attacks" when it finds an EXACT DNA match...
in order to be able to identify the enemy viruses it has to replicate some the enemy DNA (kind of like a "wanted poster", if you see this virus, kill it)
so what Claude found is the "printer" that makes these wanted posters, but ngl I can see why AI labs are worried about the bio risk

We asked ten Claude Opus 5.5 agents to devise a faster shortest-path algorithm and prove it in Lean. Within 15 hours, they produced C-HD: a formally verified improvement over the published bounds.
