"Wilfred" is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning "He who wants peace," derived from Germanic roots meaning "will" and "peace"
"Gimble" is quite obscure. I believe it might be Norman in origin, or else a variant of the German "Gimbel." Although the latter has some obscene connotations...
Very saddened to hear of our good friend Leonard Wilkinson's passing. We heard he was poorly but assumed it was only food poisoning.
He was a devoted local councillor for the village and his work in forestry was legendary.
He'll be terribly missed.

I have just watched this really excellent film with my grandson. THE LION IN WINTER, 1968. I haven't seen it since my first year of university. Vitally important viewing for all fans of Katharine Hepburn, who won an Oscar for her role as Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Yet another ingenious function of the door handle of my local café's toilet, if one happens to be carrying a book, which one wishes neither to place upon the wet floor nor to awkwardly hold while one does one's vulgarities.
