Sci Fi story idea: we discover stars aren't natural, they are in fact all alien data centers.
JUST IN: Elon Musk says AI chips for space should "run hot" — a 20% higher operating temperature could halve radiator mass and cut the weight SpaceX has to launch into orbit

I'm always disappointed when the phone calls of government officials leak. They are never Les Grossman behind closed doors.

It's really weird how typical midi playback today sounds worse than what a high end audio card could do 30 years ago.

I'm surprised to see criminology do so well.
A 2022 survey found 44% of college grads regret their majors. Journalism, sociology, communications & education topped the list of most-regretted college majors. Those majoring in computer science, criminology, engineering, nursing, business & finance had the lowest regret.

In 1995, a tiny stray kitten somehow got into the enclosure of a 560-pound grizzly bear named Griz at a wildlife rehabilitation center in Oregon, and because apparently kittens are born with absolutely no concept of reasonable risk assessment, he walked straight up to the bear while Griz was eating. The people watching were pretty sure they were about to witness the shortest friendship in history. Instead, Griz reached into his food, pulled out a piece of chicken, put it down next to his paw, and let the kitten eat it. And that was basically it. The kitten, who was given the incredibly creative name Cat, apparently decided he lived with a grizzly now. They started eating together, sleeping together and playing together, and Cat would even run up and smack Griz on the nose, while the 560-pound bear somehow understood that his roommate was approximately the size of one of his feet and reportedly backed off when their play got too rough. Apparently bears are eligible for the cat distribution system.

One of the crazier stories about Belushi's drug use during his days at SNL was after a long night partying with Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones. Belushi finally found his way back to NBC, and was so drugged up before the live taping, he was coughing up blood. Lorne Michaels got a doctor to look over Belushi and see if he could go on, but the doctor said he absolutely didn't think Belushi should and may even die if he performed instead of going to the hospital. Lorne asked, "What are the odds he'll die?" The doctor said, "50/50." Lorne said, "I can live with that." Belushi gave a thumbs up and killed that night. For anyone interested, the episode was Season 4, Episode 13 (1979)

A very satisfying part of cooking chicken is that you can usually improve the dish by hitting the bird very hard with a mallet before you start cooking. You don't have to do this, but the reward is higher than it should be given how enjoyable it can be

>math professor spends a year on one of the hardest unsolved problems in math >"Navier-Stokes" >his drafts for the whole project went through codex sessions >openai had his logs in codex >suddenly rumor leaks AI solved it >he emails openai to ask what's going on >openai calls within days >"funny story, our model also solved it" >using his exact approach >asks openai: did you train on my sessions? >no answer
If I am reading this correctly, Tristan Buckmaster is alleging OAI has a resolution of Navier-Stokes(via Córdoba and Martínez-Zoroa’s program) which maybe used info from Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge’s private Codex sessions What the fuck is happening!!!
