The dangers of the climate crisis are real. But so is the hope & rise of clean energy: The sun belongs to no one. The wind cannot be embargoed. Innovation can come from everywhere. Renewables are now the cheapest source of new electricity in most of the world. And the most viable path to energy security, independence & sustainable growth.

Elon Musk says Jacob Coxon’s warning about the existential threat of AI is a “setup.” Really? In 2014, Musk said, “With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon.” In 2018, Musk said, “Mark my words, AI is far more dangerous than nukes. Far. So why do we have no regulatory oversight? This is insane.” In 2025, Musk said, earth faces a 10-20% chance of “killer robots annihilating humanity.” Elon, what’s changed? Does it have anything to do with the fact that you have invested many billions of dollars in AI and plan to build ten million robots a year?

The challenge of our time is making capitalism work for ordinary people with the advent of AI.

This is what a rigged economy looks like: Today, we have more income and wealth inequality than at any time in American history, worse than the “Gilded Age” of Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan and Carnegie. Today, the top 1% owns more wealth than the bottom 90% and one man, Mr. Musk, owns more wealth than the bottom 50% of American households. Not acceptable. We can, and must, create an economy that works for all, not just the few.

I would like the Church to be the family of all those left by the roadside. Like the Samaritan who made himself a neighbour to the fallen man, let us not pass by. Let us build a Church that stops, draws near, is moved with compassion, anoints wounds, provides nourishment, and becomes a home.

The Founding Fathers believed people should not elect U.S. Senators. They were right.
