Absolute monsters.
OUTRAGEOUS: 77-year-old grandfather and Navy veteran Bert Atienza was brutally beaten to death in front of his wife of 42 years after simply standing up for her at a local Walmart.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Bert Atienza and his wife, Josephine, stopped at a Norfolk, Virginia, Walmart after attending church together. While shopping, a 17-year-old store employee pushing a heavy cart nearly rammed straight into Josephine. When the worker offered no apology, Bert stepped in as a protective husband, saying: "You almost hit my wife with your heavy cart, and you did not even say excuse me or apologize to her."
Instead of apologizing, the teen threw a heavy item at the elderly couple as they walked away. Wanting no trouble, the couple carried on grocery shopping. Minutes later, the teen's parents—42-year-old Erika Mitchell and 44-year-old Travis White—confronted Bert inside the store.
The adults swarmed the 77-year-old, striking him in the face and kicking him while he lay helpless on the floor as his wife pleaded with them to stop, explaining that Bert suffered from heart issues.
Bert tragically succumbed to blunt force head trauma. Both adults have been charged with second-degree murder, and the 17-year-old faces multiple felony charges.
