This morning at the Grand Palais in Paris, President Kagame joined fellow Heads of State and Government for the opening of the International Space Summit co-hosted by France and Germany. “Self-reliance is in many aspects, it’s not just in technology and different systems. Self-reliance goes into other areas, even of governance. In Rwanda there are so many things we have done in areas of governance and service delivery, some people will wonder whether we don’t have more resources than we are known for. How does a poor country get to be here? That is delivered by that mindset of self-reliance. Do whatever you can within your means, there are people who have the means and they can’t deliver. In fact, some people have a lot, in terms of means and they don’t deliver much. It’s a question of how do you want to approach the problem, it doesn’t matter the size. Minister @nsanzimanasabin and Minister @MusoniPaula hosted @BillGates at Rwanda’s National Health Intelligence Center (NHIC) to showcase how centralized, real-time data is transforming healthcare delivery across the country. Since its launch, NHIC has unified national health data to shift public policy from reactive to proactive—delivering concrete impact across the entire care continuum by: ⏱️ Reducing patient wait times at health facilities; 🚑 Streamlining emergency dispatch and ambulance response times; 🛡️ Elevating disease surveillance and containment; 🎯 Optimizing targeted resource allocation. Looking ahead, partnership with the @GatesFoundation will enable NHIC to scale its operations—expanding capabilities toward predictive health intelligence to anticipate outbreaks, issue intelligent early-warning alerts, and prevent health threats before they escalate. By leveraging modern technologies and consolidating national health data, Rwanda continues to strengthen its ability to deliver high-quality, efficient, and responsive care for all.

The high-level initiative brings together 44 commissioners to identify practical ways to harness artificial intelligence to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

“Do we really accept that, as black people, we are somehow less human and inferior? Accepting it is not simply a matter of saying “yes.” No one will ask you that question directly. You go abroad to study. Under normal circumstances, there is nothing they know that you cannot also learn. But you can come back having absorbed ideas without questions, ideas that take you away from who you are and try to turn you into something else, something that is not yours. Whether those ideas are good or bad, there is one illness I do not think we will cure anytime soon: when, in your own mind, you stop being yourself and begin wishing you were somebody else. Why would you want to become someone else? To achieve what? In our own history, with everything we have been through, that is exactly how we lost our way. And then you wait for someone from outside to tell you, “This is wrong,” and you immediately agree, without realizing that what is being condemned is you. This afternoon at Urugwiro Village, President Kagame received a delegation of constitutional experts from the East African Community (EAC), together with officials from the EAC Secretariat led by Andrea Ariik Aguer, EAC Deputy Secretary-General. Discussions focused on the ongoing work towards the East African Political Confederation, including progress on drafting its Constitution and on the next steps to advance the region’s integration agenda.

With its high patient volume and more than 9,000 eye surgeries performed annually, the hospital is one of Rwanda’s leading training sites for ophthalmology residency, offering hands-on experience and specialist mentorship, while delivering eye care at scale. The Minister also met with doctors training to become eye specialists — to discuss their education and training.

Earlier today, First Lady Mrs Jeannette Kagame and Chairperson of @Imbuto, attended a youth forum bringing together young people, parents, leaders, and partners to advance action on youth empowerment, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, and the prevention of teenage pregnancy in Rwanda. Today, Minister of State @YvanButera joined the Director General of the African Medicines Agency, Dr. Delese Mimi Darko, and members of the diplomatic corps in Rwanda for a discussion on advancing Africa’s health sovereignty through universal ratification of AMA. In his address, he reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to stronger continental health institutions and regulatory cooperation to expand access to quality, safe and effective medical products for all.
