"Twaha’s case unfolds against a continuing wave of abductions, illegal crossborder renditions, enforced disappearances, secret detention and torture in Kenya over the past year. In June, seven protesters — Ojiro Odhiambo, Michael Ngige, Muteti Mulinge, Collins Ochieng, Elijah Alam, Christine Walubengo and Davis Lichuma — were arrested by state security forces, removed from police custody, handed to security operatives and subjected to torture and detention in undisclosed facilities. Through July and August, families pursued court intervention over the enforced disappearances of Macmillan Kiarie Mugo, Evans Otieno Omondi, Michael Oloo Osoro and Abdulaziz Duba Molu, amid evidence of security personnel involvement. Despite a multitude of efforts, they remain disappeared to date. In September, armed men abducted Standard Group associate editor Alex Kiprotich, who was subsequently found abandoned in Masinga. These cases reveal the breadth of the danger: protesters, community members, journalists and exiled activists. Insecurity in Eastern DRC: LUCHA Condemns Joseph Kabila’s Political-Military Involvement and Calls for Peace While the people of Eastern DRC continue to pay the heavy price of armed conflict, displacement and insecurity, the announcement of Joseph Kabila’s involvement at the head of a new political-military movement raises grave concerns. In a press release dated 21 October 2026, the citizens’ movement @luchaRDC expresses its deep concern over the worsening political and security crisis and delivers a clear message: 🔴 LUCHA firmly condemns the former president’s involvement in a political-military dynamic. Having led the country for eighteen years, he cannot claim to contribute to its recovery by taking a path that risks fuelling armed clashes and exposing civilians to even more violence. No political disagreement, however deep, can justify the resort to arms. ⚖️ Justice cannot wait. The victims of the human rights violations committed during his years in power are still waiting for justice.
